Biography

Cordu, Trier, and the Approaching Apocalypse

Susanna Mattise had once been a woman known to Charlie, but the being that answered his longing was a corrupted spirit rooted in Trier's Tree of Shadow. Posing as a saintly or desirable presence, she attached herself to him, stimulated desire, and drained vitality. The Purifiers destroyed her first visible manifestation, yet could not locate a normal corpse, birthplace, or independent core because the Tree of Shadow supplied the deeper anchor from which she could reform (Chapters 1566–1582, 1603–1650).

Lumian Lee's Summoning Dance later drew Susanna back into events. During the Tree of Shadow incident, she sought to seize Lumian and sacrifice the sealed Termiboros to the Mother Tree of Desire. Fused with the Tree's power, she approached demigod-level danger and weaponized the desires of everyone caught inside. Lumian used Fallen Mercury to exchange fate, imposing on the Tree the outcome of roots being consumed by Trier's underground fire. Purple flames followed that fate into Susanna's manifestation and reduced her to ashes. The Tree's wider corruption survived, but Susanna herself did not (Chapters 1685–1703, 1796–1806, 1936).

Appearance and personality

The remembered woman was in her late twenties, with auburn hair, jade-green eyes, and red lips. Her supernatural form had extremely long turquoise hair and emerald eyes, combining beauty with the inhuman growth of a plant spirit. She presented affection and pleasure as gifts while treating people as nourishment and sacrificial material. Her possessiveness toward Charlie and fixation on Lumian show appetite disguised as intimacy rather than ordinary love (Chapters 1566–1582, 1685–1703).

Pathways and abilities

Susanna could inflame sexual desire, hunger, greed, performance, and survival instinct; drain vitality; produce entrancing or anesthetic floral effects; and attack through roots, branches, and the environment of the Tree of Shadow. While fused with that domain, ordinary non-godhood attacks struggled to harm her and destruction of one manifestation did not necessarily reach her anchor. The corpus describes her as a Fallen Tree Spirit or evil spirit empowered close to Sequence 4, not as a normally advanced Beyonder with a fully established potion rank (Chapters 1566–1582, 1685–1703).

Relationships
