Biography

Cordu, Trier, and the Approaching Apocalypse

Pierre Berry returns to Cordu early for Lent as one of Guillaume Bénet's followers. He and Niort abduct outsiders with supernatural potential, disguise the captives as sheep, and prepare them for sacrifice. Pierre's loyalty to the cult grows alongside resentment born from poverty and exploitation, including the death of his wife or partner after factory abuse, yet Lumian Lee points out that Pierre directs his anger toward victims rather than the people responsible for that suffering. During Lent, Pierre helps kill Ava and attacks Lumian with an axe. He uses dark, shadow-based boon powers to increase his physical threat and evade retaliation, then defers to the padre and the aura of Inevitability. At the final ritual he prevents Pons from killing Lumian too soon because Lumian must reach the altar as a sacrifice, choosing the cult's timetable over immediate revenge. Pierre dies in Cordu's catastrophe with the rest of the cult's local structure. A fragment of his soul remains preserved within the village's seal and can later be perceived there, leaving him as part of the disaster's lingering spiritual residue rather than a living agent. (Chapters 1763, 2119)

Appearance and personality

Pierre is scrawny, with sunken blue eyes, greasy curly hair, and stubble. He wears a dark-brown hooded coat tied with rope and conspicuously new black shoes. A warm smile can conceal sudden ferocity. He is bitter, fanatical, and obedient to Guillaume, but retains enough self-control to delay personal violence when the ritual demands it. [Chapter 1436] [Chapter 1537]

Pathways and abilities

Pierre has a boon from Inevitability, but its exact sequence equivalent is not established. His body can become stronger and more threatening, he can summon sinister shadowy arms or darkness, and he can exchange positions with his own shadow or another person's shadow to avoid attacks. Relationships

Guillaume Bénet is Pierre's religious leader, and Pierre follows his ritual commands without challenge. Sybil Berry, his sister, also belongs to the cult, while Niort assists him with the abducted “sheep.” Lumian becomes both his enemy and required sacrifice, forcing Pierre to subordinate hatred to the cult's larger plan.
