Hazel
Biography
Life in Klein's Era
Hazel was the daughter of Maury and Riana Macht, raised with the education and confidence of Backlund's upper class. Unknown to her family, she accepted instruction from a Marauder-pathway demigod trapped in the form of a rat. Mysticism fed her initial arrogance: she explored sewers, used theft-related abilities, and assumed secret knowledge placed her above ordinary neighbors. As her teacher deteriorated, however, Hazel chose to warn the being rather than abandon it, showing that pride had not erased loyalty (Chapters 759–983).
That loyalty led directly into Amon's trap. Amon destroyed or replaced the hidden mentor, infiltrated the Macht household through avatars, and forced the family into a nightmare of monocles. Audrey Hall treated Hazel's trauma and suppressed dangerous memories. Hazel subsequently became humbler, devoted time to charitable work, and reconnected with family life. Amon later returned the memory just long enough to provoke her toward the cathedral, then stole it again; Hazel survived, unaware of the full shape of what had happened (Chapters 1004–1017, 1057, 1124).
Appearance and personality
Hazel is a young woman with wavy black-green hair and bright brown eyes. At first her composed expression and supercilious gaze discouraged potential dance partners. She was intelligent, proud, curious, and brave enough to enter places she did not understand. Trauma and Audrey's treatment softened her disdain, revealing a conscientious side expressed through charity, family affection, and even ordinary acts such as preparing desserts (Chapters 759–869, 1057).
Pathways and abilities
Hazel advanced on the Marauder pathway and is explicitly identified as a Sequence 7 Cryptologist. The pathway supports theft, deception, observation, and the interpretation or decryption of hidden information. A green-gem necklace assisted her in reconstructing scenes and breaking through illusions, so feats performed through it should not automatically be counted as innate Cryptologist powers. Her knowledge and experience remained limited enough for Amon to manipulate her completely (Chapters 761–826, 981–1006).
