Gawain

Gawain was a former soldier who had met the standards of a true knight without receiving the title. He became Klein Moretti's combat instructor, grounding Klein's supernatural progress in disciplined footwork, strength, and weapons training. (Chapters 97–101 and 171)

Biography

Life in Klein's Era

Klein hired Gawain for systematic combat instruction after recognizing the limits of relying on powers alone. Gawain imposed strenuous drills in movement, balance, force, unarmed fighting, and weapons use, giving Klein a practical foundation for dangerous field work. (Chapters 97–101)

After Klein advanced to Clown, his coordination and physical control improved dramatically. Gawain noticed the abrupt leap but continued training him professionally, adapting instruction to a pupil whose development exceeded normal human expectations. (Chapter 171)

Appearance and personality

Gawain wore his blond hair in a short crew cut and lived modestly despite his military background. He was stern, exacting, and economical in manner, treating competent technique and repeated practice as more important than status or display. (Chapters 97–101)

Pathways and abilities

Gawain was an ordinary human with no stated pathway, Sequence, boon, or supernatural ability. His expertise covered footwork, force transmission, close combat, melee weapons, and revolver handling, all developed through military discipline rather than occult enhancement. (Chapters 97–101 and 171)

Relationships

Klein was Gawain's paying student and the principal beneficiary of his training. Gawain's instruction complemented the Nighthawks' supernatural education by teaching Klein techniques that remained useful regardless of pathway powers. (Chapters 97–101 and 171)

Items

Gawain used ordinary practice weapons, protective equipment, and firearms during instruction. No named mystical weapon or artifact is attributed to him. (Chapters 97–101)
