Biography

Cordu, Trier, and the Approaching Apocalypse

Batna is a former second mate pursuing fame as an adventurer, inspired by celebrated figures such as Danitz and Anderson while recognizing that he is no Gehrman Sparrow. He befriends Lumian Lee, then traveling as Louis Berry, in Port Farim and explains the local entanglement between pirates, officials, and employers. Batna joins the search for clues about Burman, contributing seafaring knowledge and local judgment rather than pretending to command the investigation. (Chapters 1948, 1951, 1953)

His bond with Nolfi draws him into the Port Santa sea ritual and its surrounding conspiracy. When her plan is exposed, Batna chooses to go with her despite the danger, then supports the operation from the ship and helps the allied group carry out its ambush. He survives the conflict, but Nolfi decides to remain as a combat nun while he returns to the sea, leaving him to accept that affection does not guarantee a shared future. Appearance and personality

Batna dresses and grooms himself with deliberate refinement, keeps some stubble, and carries himself like the experienced sailor he once was. He is confident, sociable, romantic about the adventurer's life, and somewhat naïve about how fame is won. At the same time, he is practical enough to judge his limits and brave enough to support Nolfi when her choices expose him to real danger. [Chapter 1948] [Chapter 2003]

Pathways and abilities

No Beyonder pathway or supernatural power is established for Batna. His abilities are ordinary but useful: seamanship, shipboard command experience, firearms, swordsmanship, port contacts, and familiarity with pirate behavior. Relationships

Lumian becomes Batna's adventuring companion and a far more capable ally than the supposed Louis Berry initially appears. Philip is part of the maritime network around their Port Farim inquiries. Nolfi is Batna's lover and partner in danger; he supports her choices, but they separate when she accepts a religious combat role and he chooses continued sea travel.
