Bard
Bard is Miguel, a key April Fool’s member who concealed his identity at Research Society gatherings and helped turn the Port Santa sea prayer ritual into a destructive “prank.” (Chapters 1809, 1828, and 2005)
Biography
Cordu, Trier, and the Approaching Apocalypse
Originally a cultural-relic thief, Bard deciphered ancient inscriptions, transmigrated, and immediately accepted the Celestial Worthy’s influence. He and Loki recognized the same allegiance in each other and formed April Fool’s; Bard later joined Ultraman and Mad Lady in disrupting Port Santa and inciting students in Torres. (Chapters 1828 and 2024–2025)
For the renewed sea-prayer plot, Bard disguised himself first as sailor Iru and then as Miguel, the false Governor of the Sea. Acting as the main planner, he spent a year exploiting access to the governor’s basement, placed an item on the ancestral altar to siphon its accumulated stealing power, and left the direct battle to his partners while he tried to escape through Milo Village. (Chapters 2005 and 2012–2013)
Gandalf captured Bard and brought him to the Nation of the Evernight. After Lumian subjected him to a crude lobotomy and truth serum, Bard disclosed April Fool’s history, its spaceship plan, and clues about Castle Dylan; once the interrogation ended, Gandalf killed him with a sword of Sunrise Gleam. (Chapters 2023–2026)
Appearance and personality
At gatherings Bard wore stockings over his head to obscure his appearance. He was calculating, mocking, and risk-averse: he delighted in deceiving Port Santa’s residents, arranged the operation so that he took the pivotal covert role with minimal exposure, and still tried to manipulate his captors when escape was impossible. (Chapters 1809, 2005, and 2013–2024)
Pathways and abilities
Bard’s original body was a wandering artist who also stole and swindled, and Bard explicitly describes himself as a former Swindler. His corpse later produced a Dream Stealer Beyonder characteristic, establishing his progression on the Error pathway; his disguises and year-long infiltration also demonstrate that pathway’s deception, though the exact mechanics of every assumed identity are not fully separated from prepared arrangements. (Chapters 2005 and 2026–2027)
Relationships
- Loki: Bard co-founded April Fool’s with him and received Celestial Worthy-related direction through their shared schemes. (Chapters 2024–2026)
- Ultraman and Mad Lady: They were his principal partners at Port Santa; Bard designed the covert theft while they handled the ritual and direct confrontation. (Chapters 2005 and 2011–2013)
- Gandalf and Hela: They captured and interrogated him as part of the Research Society’s reckoning with April Fool’s betrayal. (Chapters 2023–2026)
Items
Bard supplied a plain silver ring whose ancestral boon could perform one high-level theft and distribute the stolen power. At death he also carried a nine-page blank painting album whose drawings could briefly come alive or produce effects, with the danger that its user must never answer knocks coming from the paper. (Chapters 2011 and 2027–2028)
