Biography

The Inferno Qilin wager

Zhang Jiang proposes an apparently simple contest: Zhang Xuan must exceed the twenty-five intimacy points he has built with the captured Inferno Qilin in three days. The challenge is unfair and dangerous because Zhang Jiang himself cannot tame the saint beast, yet he permits Zhang Xuan to approach it. The resulting chaos earns a furious rebuke from Third Elder Zhang Wuchen, who confines Zhang Jiang to his residence pending punishment. Zhang Jiang still asks to see the wager's outcome before reporting to the Hall of Punishments. (Chapters 1,441–1,448)
