Zhang Hongtian

Zhang Hongtian is the Zhang Clan's twenty-seventh head and its last active Ancient Sage in the generation before Zhang Xuan. (Chapters 1,563 and 1,760–1,781)

Biography

A guardian at the end of his lifespan

Grievously wounded in the war twenty years earlier, Hongtian survives through a transfusion using the unborn Zhang Xuan's unusually pure bloodline, a decision that endangers the child. He later awakens for the Temple of Confucius crisis, protects weaker cultivators, and confronts both rival Ancient Sages and Wu Chen. Following Zhang Xuan's tactical advice, he defeats Old Geezer Yu with Flowing Water Hidden Sword, but the exertion consumes his final vitality. A second transfusion from the same donor cannot save him, and he dies after securing the victory. (Chapters 1,563, 1,760–1,780, and 1,781)

Appearance and personality

Hongtian is an imposing ancestral defender, proud and combative but willing to spend his remaining life against threats to humanity. (Chapters 1,760–1,781)

Abilities and cultivation

As an Ancient Sage swordsman, he conceals a killing thrust amid flowing, dragonlike movement. His failing lifespan and ruined vitality are decisive limits. (Chapters 1,781)
