Biography

Lessons at the Cleansing Lake

Wu Zhen serves as an experienced observer during the tournament, assessing Hong shi's unusual victories and helping the party examine the underground chamber beneath the Cleansing Lake. His desire to prove himself leads him to imitate Zhang Xuan's method for crossing a needle-filled barrier. Unlike Zhang Xuan, he is impaled across his body and then mistakes ordinary wine for a miraculous recovery medicine, worsening the pain. The humiliating episode leaves him alive and illustrates the danger of copying an outcome without understanding the method; later, he resumes the practical role of identifying Hongyuan figures for Zhang Xuan. (Chapters 622–677 and 847–854)

Appearance and personality

Wu Zhen is a young academy master teacher with the composure expected of a 5-star rank. He is observant and helpful but competitive enough to attempt hazardous feats after seeing Zhang Xuan perform them. (Chapters 629–631, 657–660, and 854)

Abilities and cultivation

His eye of discernment and experience exceed those of lower-ranked master teachers, and he can use zhenqi to expel needles from his body. Those skills do not protect him from mechanisms he has misread or from bad assumptions about medicine. (Chapters 629–631 and 657–660)
