Shen Zhui

Shen Zhui is the emperor of Tianxuan Kingdom during Zhang Xuan's early career. He commands the royal library, guards the survival of the kingdom's old ancestor Shen Hong, and quickly recognizes that the expert believed to be “Yang Xuan” may alter the balance of power in the capital. (Chapters 47, 166–188)

Biography

Patronage of Zhang Xuan in Tianxuan

When Shen Hong's life is failing, Shen Zhui brings the disguised Zhang Xuan into the royal residence and accepts his treatment despite the uncertainty surrounding the supposed master teacher. In return, he uses royal influence to collect thousands of Tongxuan cultivation manuals and gives Zhang Xuan a Golden Dragon Token for the palace collection. The treatment revives Shen Hong, while Shen Zhui's cooperation gives Zhang Xuan the textual foundation for his next cultivation art. He later accepts Zhang Xuan's growing status and works with the visiting master teachers rather than attempting to suppress him. (Chapters 166–230)

A much later hostile cultivator complains that Shen Zhui has not supplied requested death soldiers and threatens his throne. The passage establishes outside pressure on the emperor but does not show Shen Zhui complying, losing the throne, or dying. (Chapter 1,859)

Appearance and personality

Shen Zhui is a mature sovereign whose bearing reflects long practice weighing personal dignity against the kingdom's survival. He can be wary of an unaffiliated expert's influence, but is pragmatic enough to grant access and resources when Shen Hong's life and national stability depend on cooperation. (Chapters 171–230)

Abilities and cultivation

Shen Zhui is a Tongxuan realm pinnacle cultivator with enough knowledge to assess the strengths and conflicts within cultivation manuals. He also traveled in disguise when younger and collected appearance-altering texts for safety. His power is significant within Tianxuan, but the arrival of master teachers and the hidden “Yang Xuan” makes clear that royal cultivation is not the highest authority in the wider world. Relationships

• Zhang Xuan: Shen Zhui initially knows him through the Yang Xuan disguise, exchanges royal access and manuals for Shen Hong's treatment, and later acknowledges his extraordinary standing. (Chapters 185–230)
• Shen Hong: The old ancestor is the royal family's final strategic protector. Shen Zhui risks contact with an uncertain expert to preserve his life and personally helps revive him during treatment. (Chapters 185–230)
