The Mountain Gate challenge

Feng ranks highly in the Mountain Gate examination and later challenges Zhang Xuan after measuring him as a rival. He answers surprise with immediate counterattacks, uses layered defenses, and activates the Descending Cotton Sword Art, but Zhang Xuan improves his own sword technique during their exchange and overwhelms all four barriers. Feng accepts the scale of the defeat without becoming a recurring enemy. Later discussion confirms that even Yang Xuan regards Zhang Xuan as a student beyond Feng's already exceptional level, while the Sanctum's assumption that Feng must be the destined successor proves mistaken. Feng is a young, disciplined cultivator whose sharp reactions and controlled bearing reflect training at headquarters.
