Fan Xiaoxu

Fan Xiaoxu is a descendant of Ancient Sage Zi Chi and a leading candidate for the Great Phrontistery of Confucianism's entrance examination. (Chapters 1,871–1,872)

Biography

Candidate and borrowed identity

Zhang Xuan secretly incapacitates Fan Xiaoxu, stores him safely, and assumes his appearance to enter the Kunxu Domain examination. The feats subsequently attributed in public to “Fan Xiaoxu”—rapid improvement, sweeping victories, and seeking Zhang Xuan as a teacher—are performed by Zhang Xuan under that disguise, not by the unconscious youth. The real Fan Xiaoxu therefore survives, but his identity is temporarily used in a larger infiltration. (Chapters 1,871–1,894)

Appearance and personality

The real Fan Xiaoxu is a talented, cautious youth who questions a stranger claiming friendship with his father. (Chapter 1,871)
