Dan Xiaotian

Dan Xiaotian is the declining Dan Clan's last young master and Zhang Xuan's first disciple in the Azure. Crippled by a gu that consumes his cultivated energy, he nevertheless rescues the severely injured Zhang Xuan and offers him shelter and money while his own enemies close in. Zhang Xuan repays that kindness by accepting him as a student, removing the hidden cause of his disability, and teaching him swordsmanship strong enough to enter the Ascendant Cloud Sword Pavilion as an inner disciple. Dan Xiaotian's progress is unusually fast, but it rests on a decade of solitary sword practice and an instinct for repeated, precise training. His signature sword toss can kill at his cultivation level and threaten stronger opponents, though he initially cannot stop or redirect it safely. Biography

The last young master of a ruined clan

Dan Xiaotian is sixteen or seventeen when he finds Zhang Xuan grievously injured and brings him home. Ten years earlier, the disaster that killed his parents, elder brothers, and most of the Dan Clan also damaged his dantian and meridians and left his left leg numb. The clan's territory and influence collapse until only Dan Xiaotian, the old servant Dan Yi, and a small residence remain. Despite his fear and low self-esteem, he treats an apparently powerless stranger with care and gives Zhang Xuan Ethereal Coins for food even while warning him to leave before the Dan Clan's enemies strike. The City Lord Manor then ends Dan Xiaotian's engagement to Xue Qin and demands that he publicly claim responsibility, preserving her reputation by destroying his own and that of his clan. Dan Xiaotian is frightened because refusal may mean death, but chooses the Dan Clan's dignity over his safety. Zhang Xuan supports that choice and asks to be acknowledged as his teacher. Once Zhang Xuan identifies the gu consuming every trace of cultivated energy and briefly restores movement to the crippled leg, Dan Xiaotian recognizes that the wounded outsider can offer the path every physician missed and formally bows. Recovery and the City Lord Manor's accusation

Zhang Xuan needs time and resources to recover before he can kill the gu, so Dan Xiaotian helps him acquire an Ethereal Token and continues practicing the sword without zhenqi. Their arrangement is reciprocal: Dan Xiaotian supplies local knowledge, shelter, and trust, while Zhang Xuan supplies diagnosis and a route out of political helplessness. The young man does not wait passively for rescue; he trains through uncertainty even when the promised transformation appears implausible. (Chapters 1,918–1,936)

The City Lord Manor frames him for colluding with bandits and killing its soldiers, planting armor and weapons around his home. At the resulting public trial, Dan Xiaotian confronts the same authorities who counted on his weakness and demands evidence rather than accepting disgrace. Zhang Xuan exposes the scheme, removes the gu, and reconstructs his damaged cultivation network. The restoration lets ten years of accumulated effort finally circulate as true cultivation and turns the supposedly crippled clan remnant into a viable swordsman. (Chapters 1,936–1,942)

Inner disciple of the Sword Pavilion

Dan Xiaotian enters the Ascendant Cloud Sword Pavilion's trial intending merely to recover his clan's standing. His Sword Intent reaches far beyond the standard for an inner disciple, and Elder Lu Yun accepts him directly into the inner ranks. The result is a reversal of the expectations surrounding him: Xue Qin's connection to the sect had been used to humiliate him, but Dan Xiaotian earns a higher entry point through his own comprehension. He receives the Art of Ascendant Clouds and the sect's sword formula, then immediately passes them to Zhang Xuan and follows his teacher's corrected cultivation instead. Dan Xiaotian continues drilling the sword toss and spars with Bai Ruanqing, whose True Immortal reflexes are needed to avoid being impaled when she suppresses herself to his realm. A direct disciple in the Azure

Dan Xiaotian remains linked to Zhang Xuan as the latter rises to lead multiple Azure sects. News that the unknown man Dan rescued has become a sect leader makes his chance act of kindness famous in Xuanjiang City, but the value of the relationship is not luck alone: Dan Xiaotian offered help when Zhang Xuan appeared unable to repay it and then worked seriously with what he received. Before leaving the Azure, Zhang Xuan places Cao Chengli in charge of Dan Xiaotian and the other direct disciples. The arrangement confirms that Dan Xiaotian remains alive and within the lineage, but the local corpus does not show him ascending to the Firmament or reaching the later realms of Zhang Xuan's original students. His latest state is therefore an Azure-based Ancient Sage and inner disciple whose future progression is left open. (Chapter 2,080)

Appearance and personality

Dan Xiaotian is introduced as a young man of sixteen or seventeen with a crippled left leg. He is deeply self-conscious about both the injury and his looks, often lowering his expectations before others can reject him. Kindness, perseverance, and clan loyalty define him. He saves a stranger while his own household is nearly destitute, practices swordsmanship every day despite being unable to circulate zhenqi, and refuses an order that would preserve his life by disgracing his dead family. His insecurity can make him overly deferential, yet it does not erase his backbone; confidence develops when disciplined effort finally produces results. Reconstructed cultivation

The gu planted in Dan Xiaotian consumes the energy he cultivates, leaving his dantian and meridians apparently ruined and his leg numb. Once Zhang Xuan removes it, stored potential can circulate again. Zhang Xuan later channels Heaven's Path zhenqi through him to reconnect the meridians in a more efficient network, giving Dan Xiaotian a foundation suited to Azure cultivation. The cure does not manufacture mastery from nothing. Dan Xiaotian has practiced sword forms for ten years without zhenqi, and the new network finally lets that accumulated control carry power. Sword Intent and sword toss

Dan Xiaotian's sword comprehension is high enough to clear the Sword Pavilion's inner-disciple test directly and manifest Sword Intent far beyond what his realm alone predicts. His signature move is a deceptively simple toss that removes the usual windup and sends the weapon along a lethal line before an equal-realm opponent can respond. It defeats the trial's expectations and can force a True Immortal to release suppressed cultivation in self-defense. (Chapters 1,941–1,950, 1,958, and 1,977)

The move sacrifices control for immediacy. Dan Xiaotian throws away the weapon, cannot always retrieve it, and initially cannot stop it short of a target. Against Bai Ruanqing, a friendly test nearly becomes fatal; it is her superior realm and reflexes, not his restraint, that prevent injury.
