Biography

Learning from an impossible cure

Bai brings fire-poisoned Elder Liao to Zhang Xuan after conventional treatment fails. He watches Zhang identify a consciousness within the Boreal Fire Poison and resolve the condition, then questions him closely about the method. When Zhang later uses expanded lightning tribulation as an energy source, Bai overcomes his normally gentle restraint and attacks the storm clouds to enlarge them, recruiting bewildered elders into the same task. Appearance and personality

He is a flowing-white-bearded elder with a grave professional manner. Compassionate enough to hesitate at harming an ant, he becomes startlingly forceful when helping a patient or a cultivation plan. (Chapters 1,386 and 1,402)

Bai has elite medical knowledge and wide influence among experts indebted to him. Zhang's treatment nevertheless reveals phenomena beyond his existing practice. (Chapters 1,386–1,391)
