Zephyx Suppressor
A Zephyx Suppressor is a restraint that prevents a human or Specter from accessing stored Zephyx. Extractors use suppressors to make transport and containment safer, although the device's strength, energy reserve, and fit must match the captive.
History
Field restraint and transport
Suppressors appear in operations ranging from Dark Dream's handling of low-level Physical Specters to Aegis missions against Fallen and Adversaries. Nick uses them after disabling captives, during relocation between Containment Units, and when isolating Specter Cores. They do not erase a Specter's nature: the Puppy can still harm people at reduced intensity while restrained, and a powerful Fallen could break a device before it is secured. Aegis therefore combines suppressors with prior Zephyx depletion, physical control, redundant restraints, and appropriate containment. (Chapters 179, 295, 367–394, 519, 543–544, 662, 694–695, 749, 765–766, 880, and 902)
Abilities and properties
- A fitted suppressor blocks the captive's access to Zephyx and therefore disables abilities that require that reserve; it does not necessarily stop every passive or mentality-based effect. (Chapters 179, 519, and 695)
- Models have finite endurance. A basic device can hold the Blood Horse for roughly six hours, while a powered version consumes about three tons of Zephyx to suppress the Plague Vulture for approximately nine days. (Chapters 295 and 543)
- A device does not automatically overpower its target. Strong captives must first be weakened or must allow the restraint to be fitted, after which additional suppressors can provide redundancy. (Chapters 662, 694, and 880)
