The Plague Vulture

The Plague Vulture is an enormous Specter that circles west of Crimson Fungus City, kills travelers, and feeds by decomposing humans and animals. Its long survival reflects tactical caution: it retreats toward the north or ocean whenever Heroes organize a serious pursuit. (Chapters 531 and 540–546)

Biography

Suppression Outside Crimson Fungus City

The Plague Vulture’s attacks make western travel dangerous, but its established escape routes prevent the city from converting pursuit into lasting suppression. Nick eventually secures Protector assistance as compensation for a mission and turns the hunt into an overwhelming containment operation. Recognizing stronger opponents, the Vulture attempts its usual contingency, finds the routes blocked, and attacks with its decomposing dust. Even after losing its head and wings, it survives and finally submits to a Zephyx-transmitted command. Crimson Fungus City then contains it and feeds it organic waste and corpses rather than living humans, transforming an uncontrolled regional predator into a major Zephyx source without suggesting willing partnership. Appearance and personality

The Plague Vulture resembles a decaying vulture nearly fifty meters tall. It does not communicate in ordinary language, but its repeated retreat plans, recognition of superior force, and eventual submission show tactical awareness beyond blind aggression. (Chapters 543–546)

Abilities and Zephyx

Green dust released from its wings rapidly decomposes humans and animals, providing the conditions through which it feeds and grows. It can continue living after its head is destroyed and remains dangerous even while physically damaged. Flight and established escape planning are central defenses, though blocked routes and overwhelming Protector force can compel surrender. (Chapters 531 and 543–546)
