The Meat Cube

The Meat Cube is a sentient Mid Demon Physical Specter whose simple intelligence resembles that of a trained animal. It absorbs meat and releases Zephyx, making it central to a city economy secretly sustained through mass human flesh donations. (Chapters 656–660)

Biography

Emissary Control and the City’s Crisis

The Meat Cube spends most of its time dormant and has been trained to obey emissary commands without question. Lust’s network exploits that conditioning through a recurring failsafe: if no emissary appears for two months, the Specter is ordered to kill the governor and destroy the city. The arrangement pressures officials to maintain contact while making the local economy dependent on the Cube’s Zephyx. Nick infiltrates the system and destroys its core, ending both the immediate failsafe threat and the city’s established production model. Officials must seek a replacement and reorganize the economy, so the Meat Cube’s death exposes how thoroughly a living Specter and coerced human donations had been built into civic infrastructure. (Chapters 656–660)

Appearance and personality

The Meat Cube is a solid cube roughly two meters on each side. It displays limited, animal-like intelligence, remaining dormant until meetings and responding to conditioning rather than debate. The corpus does not support a richer personality, but it consistently presents the Cube as a living Specter rather than an object. (Chapters 656–657)

Abilities and Zephyx

The Cube absorbs meat directly into its body and converts the process into Zephyx output at Mid Demon scale. Its physical form is durable enough to support the city’s industrial use, but an exposed or reached core remains fatal: Nick kills it during infiltration. No broader combat technique, sensory range, or independent feeding limit is established. (Chapters 656–660)
