Futuma
Futuma is Cycle’s most experienced and strongest Newbie, respected by its Extractors as a reliable field leader. His competence gives him leverage within the Manufacturer, but his concern for status and reward also draws him into Ardum’s campaign against Dark Dream. (Chapters 147, 153, and 161–168)
Biography
Cycle’s Command and the Ambush of Nick
After Stephen’s death, Ardum offers Futuma the Chief Zephyx Extractor position and expects him to help neutralize Nick. Futuma refuses a proposal that would destroy Dark Dream because doing so would leave him commanding fewer useful Specters, showing that his loyalty is shaped by practical advantage rather than Ardum’s rivalry alone. He nevertheless joins Ardum and Selina in luring Nick into an ambush. Futuma fights skillfully with a long sword and relies on a copper Barrier, but Nick deliberately drains its energy and spears him through a building. Futuma falls into the sewers and dies, ending the advancement he had sought within Cycle. (Chapters 161–168 and 173)
Appearance and personality
Futuma is a huge man whose physical presence matches his reputation among the Newbies. He is experienced, calm enough to question policies that harm his position, and attentive to money and command, yet willing to accept lethal corporate violence when it serves his interests. (Chapters 147, 153, and 163–165)
Abilities and Zephyx
At Peak Newbie, Futuma is an accomplished long-sword combatant. His copper Barrier spends Zephyx to nullify kinetic energy, preventing knockback at the cost of rapid energy consumption; Nick exploits that cost by forcing repeated defenses. Futuma also has an ability he cannot safely use while allies are present, but the corpus does not reveal its effect or activation conditions. (Chapters 165–168)

- Ardum: Ardum promotes Futuma and recruits him into the attempt to eliminate Nick, while Futuma bargains according to his own prospective authority. (Chapters 163–165)
