The Corrosive Dust

The Corrosive Dust is a vast, stationary Specter whose expanding domain south of Crimson Fungus City threatens biological life and obstructs travel. Although it communicates only in simple transmissions, its hesitation before exposing its core shows awareness of danger and death. (Chapters 355, 531, and 705–708)

Biography

The Southern Domain and Nick’s Deception

For decades, the Corrosive Dust expands while nearby cities tolerate the danger because suppression would be expensive and intercity rivalry discourages cooperation. Its alliance with the Parasite gives Nick a way past that stalemate: impersonating a servant of Greed, Nick persuades the Parasite to order the Corrosive Dust to reveal its core. The Specter senses the mortal risk and hesitates, but ultimately follows the transmission. Nick shatters the exposed core, killing it; the enormous domain vanishes, and the sudden disappearance alerts Crimson Fungus City that a major power has acted nearby. (Chapters 531 and 702–709)

Appearance and personality

The Corrosive Dust forms a sand-and-rock pillar roughly a kilometer high, with about four hundred meters visible aboveground and roots extending kilometers beneath the surface. Screaming human faces across the structure exhale dust. Its limited communication conveys fear and reluctance, but the corpus does not establish a fuller personality. (Chapters 705–708)

Abilities and Zephyx

Its domain spreads corrosive dust that seeks biological life and interacts destructively with human Zephyx, creating danger even for Heroes. The Specter can alter its effect to attack other Specters, but it cannot relocate its immense rooted body. This immobility and the vulnerability of an exposed core let Nick kill it once the Parasite has induced compliance. (Chapters 355, 531, and 705–708)
