The Blood Hawk

The Blood Hawk is an Early Hatchling Physical Specter whose exposed red flesh, relentless aggression, and rapid regeneration make it useful as a dangerous but comparatively straightforward opponent. It shows animalistic behavior rather than speech or humanlike reasoning. (Chapters 243–246 and 423)

Biography

Containment and Repeated Confrontations

Dark Dream contains the Blood Hawk because its direct attacks and regenerative body create a repeatable source of Zephyx, but its instinct is always to attack or escape rather than cooperate. Nick repeatedly wounds it until regeneration slows from exhaustion, learning its limits while accepting the risk of close combat. During the Crimson Sea disaster it breaks free and immediately attempts escape, only for Nick to recapture it; the company later moves it by cutting around its core and allowing the body to regenerate. Its predictable hostility eventually makes it a practical introductory opponent, although it remains lethal rather than tame. (Chapters 243–246, 250, 263, 295, 314, 394, and 423)

Appearance and personality

The Blood Hawk resembles a hawk more than a meter across, but has no feathers, skin, visible eyes, or bones. Membranous wings, hardened flesh forming a beak and talons, and a blood-bearing surface film give it a raw red appearance. It is non-speaking and aggressively attacks humans without strategy. (Chapters 243–246)

Abilities and Zephyx

Its only established Hatchling ability is hyper-regeneration. It restores severe bodily damage around an intact core and can recover after most of its surrounding body is cut away, but repeated forced healing exhausts it and slows the process. Flight, clawing, pecking, and wing strikes make it nimble and flexible, though physically weaker than the Blood Horse. (Chapters 243–246, 394, and 423)

Relationships

  • Nick: Nick acts as its principal suppressor, deliberately tests its regeneration, recaptures it during the Crimson Sea disaster, and later uses its straightforward attacks for practical instruction. (Chapters 243–246, 295, and 423)
  • Dark Dream: The organization keeps the Blood Hawk contained and moves it when its facilities change. (Chapters 243, 394, and 423)

Items

  • No personal items identified: The Blood Hawk fights entirely through its regenerated body; no weapon, garment, or artifact is assigned to it. (Chapters 243–246)
