Dao-Heaven is the First Mountain's dominant Echelon cultivator and the most dangerous rival Meng Hao encounters in the Windswept Realm.

Biography

The Echelon's reigning power

Dao-Heaven is the First Mountain's Echelon member and, for thirty years, is recognized as the strongest cultivator in the Echelon. He has entered the Ancient Realm nine times, rejected each path, and forced himself back down to cultivate again. That accumulation makes his Immortal Realm power monstrously deep. He initially dismisses Meng Hao's admission to the Echelon and treats most fellow members as insects, reserving serious interest for opponents who may threaten his supremacy. (Chapters 1058, 1118)

Hunting Echelon rivals

Inside the Windswept Realm, Dao-Heaven kills the Second Mountain Echelon cultivator and receives the Lofty Mountain Immortal Flail as a reward. He then attacks Hong Bin's National Aura Mountain, breaks its defenses, and overwhelms a joint resistance by Meng Hao, Yuwen Jian, and Hong Bin. Heavenly Demon Devouring drains Hong Bin's flesh and life force to heal Dao-Heaven's injuries, after which the victim's remaining Immortal soul is also destroyed. The battle establishes Dao-Heaven as more than a rival collecting World Seals: he is willing to consume finite Echelon lives for rewards and remove future competitors. (Chapters 1115–1120)

Meng Hao is the first peer who forces him into sustained caution. Dao-Heaven's Paragon Painting and ninefold Ancient breakthroughs initially maintain an advantage, but Meng Hao's Nirvana-Fruit state creates a credible chance of mutual destruction. Dao-Heaven retreats because even victory would leave him vulnerable to other Echelon members and cost resources needed for the trial. He sends an illusory trace back to verify whether Meng Hao is bluffing, demonstrating that suspicion and strategic preservation are as central to his survival as power. (Chapters 1118–1123)

Windswept endgame

Dao-Heaven believes the Echelon Heart should belong to him and races to contest Meng Hao's growing authority. When the Emperor offers Great Daos and qi flow, Dao-Heaven recognizes danger but cannot resist a chance to correct his path. His nine hundred World-Seal insights rise rapidly through fifteen hundred and then toward three thousand. The borrowed enlightenment increases his power, but Meng Hao still defeats him and strips the Slaughter figure from his Paragon Painting. Dao-Heaven's cry for his “Master” reveals that the figure is not a decorative construct but the source around which his Paragon path has formed. (Chapters 1133–1144)

The Emperor then converts the bestowed qi flow into control and begins draining all Echelon cultivators. During Paragon Sea Dream's extraction, Dao-Heaven burns life force to push Meng Hao closer to the Traitorous Sutra of the Rebel Dao. The common disaster reframes their rivalry, and the survivors leave with their previous grudges diminished. (Chapters 1145–1151)

Mountain and Sea War

Dao-Heaven later leads the First Mountain and Sea's armies during the counterattack against the Outsiders, routing enemies across his front. He survives the war but is badly injured. When the World-Butterfly carries the remaining Mountain and Sea cultivators away, Paragon Sea Dream summons Dao-Heaven and Yuwen Jian as the only surviving Echelon members besides Meng Hao. His final supplied-corpus role is therefore that of a defeated but living remnant of the system that was intended to create the realm's future Paragons. (Chapters 1315, 1351, 1399)

Appearance and personality

Dao-Heaven wears a simple white garment but carries himself with such authority that he appears kingly without a crown and Imperial without robes. He is cold, disdainful, and accustomed to looking down on other Echelon members as ants. Unlike a merely reckless tyrant, he calculates losses carefully: he probes Meng Hao's condition, retreats from a fight that could ruin both of them, and avoids dangers he does not understand. His deepest vulnerability is the identity built around being first. The Echelon Heart and Meng Hao's ascent provoke him into accepting obvious bait. Even so, the Windswept catastrophe proves that he can recognize a greater shared interest and expend his own life force to help a rival. (Chapters 1118–1123, 1133–1151)

Abilities and cultivation

Nine Ancient Realm breakthroughs

Dao-Heaven has crossed into the Ancient Realm nine times and forced himself back to the Immortal Realm after rejecting each path. Each return leaves accumulated breakthrough power that he can release heartbeat by heartbeat, with the ninth producing the aura of all nine attempts. This makes him stronger than ordinary Immortal Emperors and able to fight multiple Echelon members. It also represents nine abandoned answers rather than a completed correct path; the Emperor's Essence bait is effective precisely because Dao-Heaven still wants a tenth and final breakthrough. Paragon Painting and Slaughter

Paragon Painting manifests as an ancient black scroll saturated with murderous aura. Opening only thirty percent reveals a dead world and projects force associated with Slaughter, a black-robed Paragon who has exterminated worlds. The figure can attack independently and places even Meng Hao in mortal danger. Greater use causes severe backlash, and the painting is not a portable item that can simply be stolen: it is Dao-Heaven's comprehended Paragon magic. Meng Hao eventually severs Slaughter from the spell, causing the manifestation to leave and stripping Dao-Heaven of the magic around which he built his supremacy. (Chapters 1119–1123, 1141–1143)

Heavenly Demon Devouring

By gripping a target, Dao-Heaven can drain life force, flesh, blood, and vitality into himself. Consuming Hong Bin restores Dao-Heaven's injuries almost instantly. Against Meng Hao, the technique meets the Blood Demon Grand Magic, which drains in the opposite direction and creates a lethal contest of absorption. It therefore excels against restrained or weaker victims but is dangerous against an opponent with equivalent life-devouring power. (Chapters 1119, 1143–1144)

Deathly divine abilities

Dao-Heaven controls black wind capable of shattering mountains, black lotuses that explode into fog, portals releasing Bone Dragons, black flame, and eighteen primordial beasts. He also forms blood lakes from his own blood and black hands from vortices. These abilities provide speed, area destruction, summons, and battlefield control. Meng Hao's Allheaven and God-Slaying states can destroy the Bone Dragons and primordial beasts, establishing that breadth does not guarantee superiority against a stronger foundational path. Echelon protections and limits

Dao-Heaven retains finite Echelon lives, so killing his body does not necessarily erase his soul. He also gains qi flow and Essence insight through World Seals. These protections encourage calculated risk, but they cannot prevent Dao-heart injury, cultivation backlash, or the Emperor from exploiting the same granted qi flow as a chain. By the war's end he survives, yet remains severely wounded and dependent on the refuge of the World-Butterfly. (Chapters 1123, 1138–1147, 1399)
