Ye Paopao

Ye Paopao is a Fei Li noble, Water Attribute Heavenly Jewel Master, and academy rival whose cautious friendship with Zhou Weiqing collapses under national and personal pressure. He develops from a politically observant student into a capable tournament fighter, but reports Zhou's secrets after their championship because he regards Zhou as a future danger to Fei Li. Years later, Ye admits that jealousy influenced that choice more than he had wanted to believe and accepts that the betrayal permanently ended their relationship.

Biography

A calculated approach to a dangerous classmate

Ye first enters Zhou's academy life as the senior noble student responsible for containing a conflict started by his younger brother, Ye Lou. Rather than escalating the quarrel, he apologizes and purchases two sets of Mid-Level Consolidating Equipment Scrolls from Zhou at an unusually generous price. He also warns Zhou that the academy has alerted the noble students' leaders about him. Ye's courtesy is strategic as well as genuine: he judges Zhou to be unusually dangerous, sees value in establishing friendly terms early, and prefers a negotiated relationship to a feud that could damage his family faction. When injured nobles later gather their families outside the academy, Ye again warns Zhou instead of exploiting the crisis. He explicitly says that he wants friendship because of Zhou's potential, not because the earlier scroll purchase created a debt. His effortless formation of an ice pillar also reveals that the apparently harmless noble is an accomplished Water Heavenly Jewel Master. Ye tells himself that he is protecting his empire, and that political concern is real, but his later self-assessment identifies jealousy as a major motive. Zhou and Lin Tianao also suspect that Ye may have exposed their whereabouts to hostile attackers; the supplied chapters never confirm that suspicion, so his established betrayal is the report itself, not responsibility for the subsequent ambush. Appearance and personality

Ye is a handsome young man whose mild, harmless-looking expression conceals unusual self-control. At the academy he dresses as a noble student and speaks with polished restraint, making his intentions difficult to read. His demeanor contrasts with the more openly aggressive nobles around him: he usually observes, calculates risk, and intervenes through warning, negotiation, or authority before resorting to force. Prudence is both Ye's strength and his moral weakness. It allows him to recognize Zhou's value early, avoid a reckless wager, obey difficult tournament strategy, and control his younger teammates. The same habit turns a friend into a problem to be reported when national interest and family ambition appear threatened.
