Duty without courtly illusion

When Vesper convenes a political meeting to judge Jason's capability, Trenchant challenges the premise: contracts, not courtiers, reveal whether an adventurer can perform. His refusal to flatter royalty gives the group a more useful assessment and helps redirect Jason toward practical work during the surge. Over the following years he maintains a relationship with Farrah despite discomfort over their age and power disparity; once she reaches gold rank, he cautiously signals that he wants something more lasting.
