Hector

Hector refers to two separate men: Belgian International Committee official Hector De Lange and Storm Kingdom noble Hector de Varco. De Lange coordinates the Lyon intervention; de Varco is an adventurer whose challenge to Jason becomes the start of a later magical-vehicle career. (Chapters 309–310, 596–603, 619, 893)

Biography

A coordinator and a challenger

De Lange takes charge of proceedings after the compromised Lyon Network branch invites International Committee oversight, organising the mixed-branch response around the operation to recover Farrah Hurin. Hector de Varco enters the story much later by challenging Jason Asano after Lancet embarrasses their house. Unlike his relative, he accepts the possibility of defeat as a step toward improvement, but Jason overwhelms his stone-body defence by abandoning affliction tactics. Hector survives, pays the resulting wager and eventually rises within House de Varco by championing profitable cloud-construct modification, later joining Jason’s flask project. Skills and relationships

De Varco can turn his body to stone, isolate afflicted sections and replace removed material from his surroundings, making him unusually resistant to affliction specialists. His later expertise lies in magical vehicle construction and weapon systems rather than duelling alone. (Chapters 603, 893)
