Dean Tuckell is one of the adventurers pressured into serving Thadwick Mercer’s interests in the Greenstone lumber region. Jason’s intervention separates him from the men who are committed to violence and gives him a route back to his family. (Chapters 94–97)

Biography

Choosing a way out

Dean is guarding Clementson’s operation when Jason confronts him, but conversation reveals that fear and dependence, rather than loyalty, keep him in place. Jason relaxes the confrontation once Dean gives his name, then protects him through the fight with Jerrick and brings both men back toward Greenstone. Dean hides with his family while Jason handles the consequences, surviving a situation in which several harder men die because they refuse the same exit. Years later he lives openly at Madam Landry’s establishment and rushes to share extraordinary Adventure Society news with Jerrick, showing that the frightened hireling rebuilt an ordinary community life. Skills and relationships

Dean is an essence-user adventurer but is not presented as an elite combatant. His consequential ability is recognising when surrender and cooperation offer a better future than continuing to serve a dangerous patron. (Chapters 94–97)
