Audrey

Audrey Blaine is the former EOA cardinal Mrs South, a defector who survives assassination by reincarnating into an artificial body prepared years earlier. She later becomes the Asano Clan’s director of energy-vampire research. (Chapters 340–355, 946–985)

Biography

Defection, resurrection and research

Audrey objects when the EOA’s agenda crosses the last boundary she can tolerate, even after Mrs West warns that dissent will get her killed without stopping the plan. The organisation does kill her, but her soul reaches a hidden replacement body built by a cancelled resurrection programme. Freed from the Mrs South identity, she defects and begins supplying information. Years later she joins Clan Asano, where her knowledge of Earth’s secret magical programmes becomes constructive expertise: she leads energy-vampire research, investigates vampire victims with Carlos and Clive, and helps brief the hunt for McKean. Skills and relationships

Audrey’s artificial body restores her at a younger physical age, but its survival depends on extensive preparation completed long before the EOA turns on her. Her deeper strength is accumulated knowledge of the EOA, Cabal and energy-vampire programmes, which makes her valuable as a researcher after she abandons covert leadership.
