Paimon
Paimon le Noir is a former Underworld dignitary who recognizes Neo's Monarch blood and becomes an exacting facilitator of his early Underworld contract and trials. (Chapters 70 and 125–141)
Biography
Underworld contracts and rewritten offices
Paimon meets Neo Hargraves at Willow Mansion, where her perception cuts through his evasions and identifies the blood connection behind their meeting. She temporarily restores the Underworld blessing needed for his contract, later receives God Blood, and administers training and trials. Her hospitality—especially tea—does not make her permissive; she notices lies and expects Neo to meet the conditions attached to what he asks. (Chapters 70 and 125–141)
An earlier rewritten Shadow-Trial history presents Paimon as the Underworld's Grand Duchess and third-ranked Grim Reaper. She protects Daniel as the Second Prince's chosen person but refuses to disobey the Monarch directly. When the rules become an obstacle, she finds a lawful break in precedent by making the living Typhaon a Grim Reaper, then willingly steps down as Grand Duchess. These offices precede the current-line “former” status and are not later promotions. (Chapters 320–322)
Paimon later reunites with Neo and Barbatos over tea. She accepts Neo's apology without demanding an interrogation, preserving a relationship built on sharp perception rather than sentimental display. She is present among Neo's surviving friends at the final gathering. (Chapters 710–711 and 833)
Appearance and personality
After receiving God Blood, Paimon has milk-white skin, golden hair, red eyes, fangs, and a habitual smile, replacing the skeletal appearance seen earlier. She is composed, observant, rule-conscious, and capable of bending office through legitimate procedure when loyalty requires it. (Chapters 70, 125, and 320–322)
Powers and limitations
Paimon commands Underworld knowledge, contracts, blessings, trials, and Grim Reaper institutions. Her refusal to directly violate the Monarch's command is an institutional limitation rather than weakness, and her solution is to change who legally qualifies for office. (Chapters 70–141 and 320–322)
Relationships
Neo is a troublesome blood relative and beneficiary whose intent Paimon repeatedly tests. Barbatos is an old companion in the Underworld circle, while Daniel and Typhaon become the people for whom she uses institutional authority creatively in the prior history. (Chapters 70–141, 320–322, and 710–711)
