Devil of Cruelty

The Devil of Cruelty is a prophesied role, not a third embodied person separate from Amelia de Beaufort and Neo. Amelia was intended to become it, but by Chapter 825 the relevant Fate rests partly with her and partly with Neo, and the narration says no one knows who will complete it. (Chapters 742, 781, and 825)

Biography

Prophecy, preparation, and divided Fate

Zeus learns a prophecy that the first child of an Age-of-Gods deity will become the Devil of Cruelty and bring the ultimate end. He responds by killing possible divine parents and later attacking Neo. Neo realizes the intended child is Amelia, born to Julie and Poseidon, but hides that conclusion from Zeus to keep him from finding her. (Chapters 739–745)

Julie prepares Amelia through the Ouroboros mark, hostile Void Gods, Karax, Soul Weapons, and Grim Reaper training, intending suffering to awaken the Devil as a weapon against Order. Later evidence says an old document identified the Devil as the only force able to defeat Order, though its readers mistook Order for Apollyon instead of the Cosmos. Amelia remains the intended bearer, but Neo's interference splits the Fate between them and leaves the final identity open. (Chapters 781, 801, and 825)

Nature and abilities

The role is associated with destruction on a cosmic scale and with the capacity to defeat Order. These are prophetic functions, not an explicit current stage, technique list, or completed transformation. Neither Amelia nor Neo is stated to have fully attained the title by Chapter 839. (Chapters 742, 825, and 837)

Relationships

Julie is the architect trying to awaken the role through Amelia's despair. Zeus is its hunter, acting on a deliberately incomplete future. Amelia is the intended candidate and Neo the unforeseen co-bearer after Fate divides; their relationship to the title is candidacy and destiny, not alias equivalence. (Chapters 742, 781, 801, and 825)

Legacy

Fear of the Devil drives Zeus's massacre of the Gods and much of Julie's hidden plan. By the final chapters, Neo suspects the Witch of Greed helped Zeus target it in order to sabotage Cole's attempt to create the Devil, leaving the prophecy's manipulation unresolved even though its historical damage is clear.
