Cerberus
Cerberus is the massive three-headed hound who guards the Underworld Gate. “Cereberus” is a recurring spelling variant, not another guardian, and the three independently moving heads belong to one character. (Chapters 355–356 and 606)
Biography
Guardian and family hound
Cerberus rushes happily toward Neo on their first direct meeting, but his powerful Intent makes Neo bleed until the hound notices the pain and draws it back. He later accompanies Grim Reapers to the Voraka Site and watches the forge with them, combining the vigilance expected of a gate guardian with the behavior of an enormous, affectionate household dog. (Chapters 355–356 and 606–607)
After history changes, Cerberus remains recognizable at the Gate. He lowers all three heads under Neo's touch, meets Jack Hanma, and barks furiously when the Gate is disturbed. The Supreme of Water later greets him by name and rubs his heads before crossing, confirming a longstanding bond rather than a newly summoned beast. (Chapters 708–709, 714, and 723)
Appearance and personality
Cerberus is an immense three-headed hound with sharp teeth and glowing eyes. Each head scans independently, yet he responds as a single loyal guardian. His intimidating presence contrasts with drooping ears, whimpers, a wagging tail, and eagerness for affection from people he recognizes. (Chapters 355–356, 606, and 723)
Powers and limitations
His Intent is strong enough to injure Neo passively, and his senses make him an alert Gate guardian. The text gives no formal stage or rank, so those feats are not converted into a numbered progression. He can also restrain the Intent voluntarily when he realizes it is hurting an ally. (Chapters 355–356)
Relationships
Cerberus is obedient and affectionate toward Neo, familiar with Jack, and warmly attached to the Supreme of Water. Gremory works beside him at the Gate and during Underworld deployments. These bonds frame guardianship as family service rather than simple captivity or ownership. (Chapters 356, 606, 708–709, and 723)
