Celestra

Celestra is the Hope Dragon Clan Leader encountered inside Tartarus's nightmare world. She is a consciousness-bearing person produced or preserved within that construction, not an external original silently substituted into it. Celestra knows the Cosmos may classify her as “fake,” but argues that thinking, choosing, and drawing make her real to herself. (Chapters 502 and 532)

Biography

Choosing Neo's gamble

Celestra stays behind when Tyr withdraws, reasoning that she must make sure Neo Hargraves reaches Zone 8 before her clanmates attack another Protector alone and die meaninglessly. Once freed from immediate command, she removes her blindfold and introduces herself as “just Celestra,” distinguishing the individual artist from the formal Dragon Clan Leader she must perform in public. (Chapters 501–502)

She studies Neo's changing Cosmos, sketches the final moments of Baryon Flamejaw through Eyes of Echoes, and helps receive Nyxtharion #2 among the rescued prisoners. When Tartarus's end becomes certain, Celestra leads Neo toward the inhabitants' celebration instead of asking him to preserve her alone. She later transfers her techniques so that something learned by a supposedly false life will continue after the world disappears. (Chapters 509, 519, and 532)

Appearance and personality

Celestra has a human-like form with yellow flames burning in her pupils and a giant dragon form. Her blindfold is associated with the discipline of clan leadership; removing it accompanies a warmer, more personal manner. She is perceptive, protective, and capable of accepting death without accepting the claim that her experiences were meaningless. (Chapters 502 and 532)

Powers and limitations

Eyes of Echoes lets Celestra view remnants of the past closely enough to draw an event she did not directly witness. Her shown version is bound to Tartarus's constructed world, however, and expects to be erased when it ends. Giving the technique to Neo preserves knowledge, not her complete consciousness or body. (Chapters 509 and 532)

Relationships

Celestra trusts Neo with the clan's survival gamble and later with the memory of her technique. She treats Tyr as a fellow leader whose caution she understands, while her relaxed conversations with Velkaria reveal the less formal self normally hidden behind duty. (Chapters 501–502, 511, and 532)
