Ava

Ava is the daughter Kane raises inside Tartarus, a Dragon with Nightmare affinity, and an unknowingly artificial person created by the Nightmare World. She guides Neo through the Yasagori Pond, sneaks into the Ninth Grand Expedition, and develops the theory that leads his group into the individual subconscious nightmares. Tartarus has secretly fused her with a Core fragment and made her a Pillar so Kane will not attack the world that sustains her. The revelation that she is “fake” describes her origin and dependence on the Nightmare, not the reality of her choices, affection, knowledge, or sacrifice. Biography

Kane's household and the Yasagori guide

Ava tests Neo with Dragon Fear at Kane's request, then serves the visitors in the home she shares with her father. Formal and guarded around strangers, she calls Kane “Master” despite his attempts to correct her and defends the kindness others miss beneath his reputation. She initially resents giving Neo access to the ancestral Yasagori Pond, but carefully teaches him how its elementals can be bargained with, warns that greed will break even his mind, pulls him out after the ritual, and tells him the Everwitch Violet will turn its target into a True Witch. Her resistance develops into concern once she recognizes their shared pain around absent parents. (Chapters 399–407)

The forbidden expedition and the map inside the mind

Ava secretly joins the Ninth Grand Expedition despite Kane's protectiveness and becomes trapped by the Nightmare Tree. Neo, Elizabeth, and Zera find her after more than a year and rescue her from the vines; the normally composed young woman hides from Zera's discipline and reveals a more candid personality once she feels safe. She also knows that Julie escaped and returned to Tartarus, giving Elizabeth the first direct confirmation that her missing twin is there. Rather than accept evacuation, Ava continues with the group because her Nightmare knowledge can solve the Abyss's structure. (Chapters 425 and 436–440)

At the tree, Ava distinguishes the shared conscious nightmare from the individual nightmares embedded in every captive's subconscious. She reasons that the World Core hides among millions of minds because past expeditions have already searched the collective construction. Her Nightmare affinity lets her enter those inner worlds and bring Zera with her, while Neo carries Elizabeth. Ava's theory is risky and incomplete—Tartarus still controls rules inside the nightmare—but it provides the only plausible route to the Core and turns her from protected dependent into the expedition's specialist. The hidden Pillar, sacrifice, and final disappearance

Inside the Hades-shaped nightmare, Ava sacrifices herself during a repeated confrontation to save Neo. She does not know she is a Pillar or artificial; she acts as Kane's daughter and as the companion who has traveled with the group. Neo stores her body and stops its time, while Tartarus repeatedly rewinds events and later kills her again merely to punish him. Tartarus can normally revive inhabitants of the Nightmare World, but Ava's fusion with a Core fragment makes her restoration unusually difficult. Kane eventually learns that his biological daughter was stillborn and Ava was generated by the Nightmare. He tries to call her fake, then recognizes that the life they shared was real to him regardless of cosmological origin. Ava's death and Tartarus's willingness to treat revival as permission to kill her push Kane into Neo's alliance. When the Nightmare World collapses, artificial inhabitants cannot survive outside it. Kane enters the earlier moment long enough to see Ava one final time, then allows Neo to return to the future even though doing so ends her remaining branch. Appearance and personality

Ava is a young Dragon woman whose controlled demeanor makes her seem older and colder around Kane's guests. She radiates a Dragon Aura strong enough to discourage forest monsters and uses Dragon Fear as a mental attack. Familiarity reveals someone more expressive: she pouts over wasted ancestral resources, praises food eagerly, panics around Zera's discipline, and is briefly flustered by Neo's scars at the sacred pond. Her maturity is partly a role she assumes in her father's household, not an absence of humor, fear, or affection. (Chapters 399–407 and 438–439)

She is protective of Kane's reputation, respectful of Dragon traditions, cautious with dangerous magic, and intellectually confident within her specialty. Ava challenges the guests when their plans seem naïve and does not follow Neo blindly. The decision to sneak into the Abyss is reckless, but after rescue she contributes the central model of its nightmare layers and accepts continued risk. Dragon abilities and mental pressure

Ava possesses a Dragon Aura, rapid natural regeneration, and Dragon Fear, a mental attack capable of breaking seasoned inhabitants of Tartarus. Neo resists it because of his unusual Darkness-trained mind rather than because the technique is trivial. She dispatches forest monsters during the Yasagori journey and uses ordinary spells for household and travel tasks. Her Nightmare affinity senses the split between collective and individual dream structures and lets her project consciousness into the Nightmare Tree while carrying a companion. Neo initially sees Ava as a niece-like figure because of his bond with Kane. She guides and warns him, later travels beside him, and sacrifices herself in a repeated nightmare. Zera
