Arthur's Shadow

Arthur's Shadow is an autonomous Shadow copy of Arthur Kingsley created within the World of Treacherous Shadows. Unlike ordinary Shadow monsters, it can reproduce its counterpart's abilities and battle habits, speak, plan with other Shadows, and pursue the instinct to consume the original and take his place. It becomes the central enemy of the academy's Calamity Window mission, killing several students, engineering its own rebirth to reset Arthur's Invincible skill, and confronting Neo in the fifth Depth Level. The copy is never Arthur himself, and its actions, deaths, and mimicked abilities are not part of Arthur's personal progression. (Chapters 100 and 102–119)

Biography

The first ambush and the assassin's copy

Neo's quest announces that he must defeat Arthur Kingsley's Shadow alone, confirming that the dangerous copy is inside Window #12862. The first encounter justifies the warning. Arthur's Shadow walks openly toward the teams with daggers drawn, then triggers mimicked Invincible and moves faster than the students can respond. It beheads Christian, stabs Neo through the chest, severs Leonora's arm, and coordinates its withdrawal with the Shadows of other students. Because Arthur is an assassin, the Shadow treats every opening as a chance to kill rather than capture. (Chapters 100 and 102–103)

The copy assumes leadership among Harrison's, Sean's, Clara's, and Lucas's Shadows. It praises Lucas's long-range ambush, discusses why it alone can speak, and prepares a contingency around the twenty-four-hour Invincible restriction. Its speech and loneliness show an independently reasoning being rather than an automatic recording. Its abilities still come from Arthur: Shadows mimic an original's skills and tactics, and their copied techniques are normally weaker unless reinforced by speaking their names. This distinction lets the copy resemble Arthur in combat while choosing goals and methods Arthur actively opposes. (Chapters 102–105)

Death as a cooldown and the seed of revival

Unable to use Invincible again immediately, Arthur's Shadow deliberately stabs itself. Its corpse condenses into a black crystal, which Lucas's Shadow fuses with another Shadow Elemental Seed. The process rebuilds the same autonomous Shadow and resets the skill timer, though later observers say forced revival leaves it weaker. The act turns death into resource management and reveals a central limit: survival depends on an elemental seed and time to reconstruct, not ordinary immortality. The Shadow resents having to mimic weaknesses such as cooldowns even while exploiting a Shadow-specific way around them. (Chapters 104 and 112–114)

The revived copy isolates Arthur and Leonora inside concealing mist. It uses Sound-derived awareness, invisibility, speed, and Invincible to break through their defenses and fatally cuts Leonora's throat, but her final Holy attack penetrates its mimicked protection. Arthur capitalizes with Shadow Ink, killing the copy slowly after Lucas's portal support has been removed. Clara's Shadow steals the elemental seed from the corpse, preserving a path to another rebirth. That chain of assistance shows why the mission cannot treat the Shadows as disconnected duels: one copy's portal or recovered seed changes another's survival. (Chapters 107 and 112–114)

The fifth Depth and Neo's single-handed victory

After another revival, Arthur's Shadow finds Neo alone on the fifth Depth. It begins with a false apology, claiming that the instinct to consume originals drove its earlier killings and offering repentance. Neo detects hidden bloodlust and attacks, forcing the copy to abandon the performance. Their duel pits its superior speed, invisibility, mirage spell, daggers, and mimicked Invincible against Neo's senses and layered defenses. The Shadow destroys his protective mask, stabs his neck, and believes contamination will finish the fight, but Neo's resurrection lets him catch its leg with Necrotic Touch. (Chapters 116–118)

The Shadow amputates the decaying limb, realizes it can no longer escape, and mistakes Neo's resistance to Shadow elementals for evidence that he too replaced an original. Neo beheads it after it promises that Shadows will meet him again. The academy report credits Neo with the single-handed kill even while condemning the risks he took to achieve it. During a later Time Slip, Neo encounters the copy at an earlier moment and smashes it with far greater strength, but concludes that the single strike only damaged it and may not be enough to change the mission's losses. The later contact is altered history, not a resurrection after the primary beheading. (Chapters 119, 128, and 169)

Appearance and personality

Arthur's Shadow reproduces Arthur's assassin silhouette and uses two daggers, but its body, blood, and death residue are Shadow matter. Black lightning surrounds mimicked Invincible, and lethal injury can collapse the body into a black elemental crystal. It moves with practiced stealth and reverse-grip dagger tactics associated with Arthur, yet it is willing to approach openly when overwhelming speed makes concealment unnecessary. The article attributes those visual and tactical parallels to the copying mechanism rather than treating the Shadow as Arthur in another mood. (Chapters 102–104, 107, and 112–119)

It is calculating, lethal, self-aware, and capable of deception. The Shadow coordinates allies, tests revival rules, and studies why its existence differs from theirs. Its brief admission of loneliness complicates but does not erase its predatory purpose. When it claims repentance, Neo detects the bloodlust behind the words; once exposed, the copy resumes a clinical fight of stamina and position. Its final promise that Shadows never die reflects both the World of Shadows' regenerative mechanisms and its refusal to see one body's defeat as moral judgment. (Chapters 103–105 and 117–119)

Powers and limitations

Mimicry of Arthur

As a true Shadow, it copies Arthur's abilities, affinities, and battle tactics. These include assassin-grade dagger use, Sound-based detection, invisibility, mirage substitution, and the unique skill Invincible. Mimicked techniques are intrinsically weaker than the original but can reach comparable output when the Shadow speaks their names aloud. Copying does not grant Arthur the Shadow's choices or vice versa, and any skill displayed only by the copy remains evidence of mimicry unless Arthur independently uses it. (Chapters 102–105, 107, 112, and 117–118)

Invincible and Elemental Interference

Invincible floods the copy with black lightning and sharply raises speed, force, and durability. The skill ordinarily carries a once-per-twenty-four-hours restriction and can monopolize ambient Divine Energy through Elemental Interference, obstructing similar Zeus-bloodline activations nearby. Arthur's Shadow evades the cooldown by dying and fusing its crystal with a new Shadow Elemental Seed, but forced rebirth weakens the reconstructed body. Holy power can also break through the mimicked Invincible state. (Chapters 102–105, 107, and 112–114)

Shadow rebirth and vulnerabilities

Death reduces the Shadow to an elemental seed or crystal that can be stolen, fused, and rebuilt. The mechanism requires compatible Shadow material and does not make each defeat meaningless: Shadow Ink kills it, Holy energy causes extreme damage, Necrotic Touch forces amputation, and loss of portal support can prevent escape. After losing a leg against Neo, it accepts that the body is doomed. Its numerical Awakener rank is never disclosed, so comparisons to Arthur or Zeus-lineage users cannot supply a formal tier. (Chapters 104, 112–119)

Relationships

Arthur

Arthur is the original counterpart whose skills and assassin tactics the Shadow mimics. The copy wants to consume and replace him, while Arthur accepts personal risk to stop it and ultimately kills one incarnation with Shadow Ink. Their matching abilities create tactical intimacy without shared agency, memory, or moral responsibility. (Chapters 102–105 and 107–114)

Neo Hargraves

Neo is assigned the single-handed defeat and becomes the Shadow's most persistent opponent. It nearly kills him during the first ambush and later destroys his mask and body in their duel, only to be caught by resurrection and Death. The mission victory advances Neo's quest, while the later Time Slip makes him question whether a partial intervention could save those killed before that victory. (Chapters 100, 102, 117–119, 128, and 169)

Lucas's Shadow

Lucas's Shadow provides portals and the additional seed used for rebirth. Arthur's Shadow values that support and coordinates ambushes around it. When Neo removes Lucas's Shadow, Arthur and Leonora can trap and kill the copy instead of watching it escape. (Chapters 104, 107, and 112–113)

Leonora von Villiers

Leonora survives the first attack at the cost of an arm, then fights beside Arthur in the mist. Arthur's Shadow fatally cuts her throat, but her final Holy technique breaks its mimicked Invincible and makes the subsequent Shadow Ink kill possible. Their exchange demonstrates both its lethality and its elemental vulnerability. (Chapters 102 and 112–113)

Items

Arthur's Shadow uses copied daggers and depends on Shadow Elemental Seeds for reconstruction. Neither is cataloged as its unique artifact: the daggers reproduce Arthur's combat equipment, while the seeds are regenerative Shadow matter shared across the Window's copies.
