Intrepid Diary

The Intrepid Diary is a leather-bound personal journal recovered by Kai Tylenn during the pirate attack on the Intrepid. Its author signs himself B and describes himself as a fugitive from the Stygian Cult, though his full identity remains unknown. Its list of names includes Elijah Lockhart Greaves, and the apparently mundane account conceals an encrypted record that links Kai's missing mentor to the voyage and the wider cult investigation.

History

An improbable discovery aboard the Intrepid

While Kai and Flynn Rilei evade pirates during the Fate Fulcrum's full discharge, the tilting ship throws Kai into an open cabin and a leather journal falls from a wardrobe onto his head. He is about to discard it until he sees Elijah Lockhart Greaves written in a list of names. The diary recounts its then-unidentified owner's ordinary life through boarding the Intrepid, presenting Elijah as one tourist in the traveling group, but Kai recognizes a suspicious pattern in its phrasing and concludes that the text is encrypted. He stores it in his spatial ring before the ship sinks. (Chapters 257–258)

Limgrell study and Raelion comparison

Kai continues studying the diary during the Limgrell investigation, ranking it alongside the cult's jagged runes even while disappearances demand his attention. By Chapter 317, he has partially decrypted it: the writer signs himself B, is fleeing the Stygian Cult, investigates its possible collaborators, and searches the archipelago for Elijah Lockhart Greaves. The reason for B's flight and his full identity remain unexplained. At Raelion, Valela Hightide compares the available records and finds names repeating across recovered journals; Kai realizes that the overlap may provide a route to information about his former teacher. Abilities and properties

• The book is an ordinary-looking leather-bound diary whose author is known only by the initial B. No active magical function is demonstrated. (Chapters 257–258 and 317)
• Its prose uses an encryption hidden inside apparently mundane life writing. Kai detects the pattern because of his practice decomposing arcane runes, but detection does not make the full cipher immediately readable. (Chapter 258)
• A list of names identifies Elijah Lockhart Greaves and ties him to the owner's Intrepid voyage. The decrypted material establishes that B was searching for Elijah while hiding from the cult; later name overlaps with other journals strengthen the lead without establishing Elijah's location, allegiance, or fate. (Chapters 258, 317, and 347)
• The journal reaches Kai during a Fate Fulcrum discharge, making the discovery extraordinarily timely; the artifact does not guarantee that the information is benign or complete. (Chapter 258)
