Sabe

Sabe is a pearl hunter from Sylspring who first meets Eleni and Kai as a boastful young competitor. His practical seamanship and willingness to keep Eleni's discoveries private complicate Kai's poor first impression. By Kai's return to the islands, Sabe has matured, married Eleni, and become part of the Tylenn family's life while continuing to hunt pearls at sea.

Sabe introduces himself as Sylspring's best pearl hunter while crowding Eleni, showing off his physique, and turning their work into flirtatious competition. His swagger irritates both Eleni and Kai Tylenn, but his conduct is not wholly empty boasting: at the docks he notices Kai tying a boat incorrectly and fixes the knot without being asked, then proudly displays a pearl from his own dive. Eleni later tells Kai that Sabe can keep a secret and has not spread word of the valuable mana pearl she found, establishing an early basis for trust beneath their rivalry. (Chapters 106–116)

Years later, Eleni tells Kai that Sabe has changed and that she values him as kind and sweet rather than merely handsome.
