Oli is one of the mischievous twins in Kai Tylenn's childhood group. After Whiteshore's relocation, he enters the Republic's Hawkfield scholarship program with his brother Uli, develops into an Orange-grade spear fighter, and later enlists in the army. (Chapters 5–251)

Biography

The Vastaire Ruins to Change

Oli and Uli join Kai's childhood expedition to the Vastaire ruins after pestering him for weeks to keep his promise. Their impatience, boundless energy, and habit of exchanging identifying bracelets make them difficult even for their young mentor to manage. Oli asks repeatedly how long the walk will take and joins the twins' continual pranks afterward, but he also sits through Kai's lessons about the Guide. When questioned about experience gain, he tries to pass the answer to Uli rather than admit uncertainty, establishing the competitive evasiveness that continues into adolescence. (Chapters 5–6)

Past and Present to The Contract

After relocation separates the children, Oli receives a place at Hawkfield and trains under the Republic's scholarship program. When Kai finds the group in Higharbor years later, Oli tackles him in greeting, resumes the old teasing immediately, and boasts about having reached a race enhancement sixteen hours before Uli. His confidence is not empty: both twins have reached Orange, maintain excellent conditioning with an unidentified Running variant, and use long practice spears with enough skill to fight each other to repeated draws. By the time Kai returns from the Hidden Sanctuary, Oli and Uli are no longer at Hawkfield. They enlisted while Lou Denule was away, explaining that they wanted to see the world and advance their professions. Lou's latest letters place them on the mainland at a mountain pass near the northern border, where they are doing well but complain about the cold. Appearance and personality

Oli and Uli are identical twins whom Kai cannot reliably distinguish by sight.
