Emperor Fawkes

Gervaise, normally addressed as Emperor Fawkes, is Earth's ruler, Alienor's father, and Leonel Morales's maternal grandfather. His statecraft treats danger as a forge: he repeatedly withholds power he could deploy so that Earth produces stronger soldiers, accepting casualties that Leonel regards as avoidable. Later revelations place that severity inside a larger design—the Fawkes are remnants of a fallen human imperial lineage, and Earth is one of many Incomplete Worlds meant to produce warriors, resources, and new solutions for wider Existence. Biography

A ruler preparing for descent

Gervaise first appears in Earth's royal court, where he laughs off demands to punish Leonel and instead invites the nobles to try killing his grandson, confident that they will fail. When the planet later undergoes a premature acceleration, he recognizes that the change has arrived before Earth is ready, but his response remains characteristic: observation and preparation rather than public panic. When Terrain and its proxies pressure the newly integrated world, he makes the younger generation carry the visible war. He denies Noah Fawkes further instructions until White City is destroyed, deliberately forcing the prince to stop depending on him and act from his own judgment. (Chapters 98, 321, and 457–458)

That apparent passivity is not impotence. Gervaise keeps elite troops at the palace while allowing the conflict to temper Earth's forces, and when Leonel is directly endangered he projects overwhelming power across the battlefield and calls him to the palace. Their first meeting exposes the fault line in the family: Leonel asks why a ruler with such strength lets citizens die, while Gervaise argues that strength does not create an automatic obligation to spend it according to another person's morality. He then attacks Leonel's double standard—Leonel also protects selectively and hoards advantages—without denying his own harsh choices. The exchange does not reconcile them, but it turns their relationship into an ideological contest rather than simple estrangement. (Chapters 547 and 582–586)

Engineered enemies and Earth's hardening

The most consequential revelation about Gervaise's pre-Metamorphosis rule is that the destruction of the Paradise Islands was planned into Earth's development. Their fall killed more than ninety-nine percent of the population before those people could become Invalids, trading billions of lives for an Earth that would not be overwhelmed at the start of the Dimensional Descent. Leonel condemns the calculus, but also recognizes its long preparation and ruthless internal logic. (Chapters 966 and 1081)

Gervaise applied the same logic to peace. He created the Slayer Legion by sacrificing one of the Empire's strongest blades and turning it into a controlled enemy, reasoning that an uncontested empire might decay before the Fourth Dimension arrived. The Legion gave the Ascension Empire a permanent external threat around which to unite and train. This reframes what had appeared to be a rebellion: conflict itself was part of Gervaise's state design, and even loyal descendants such as Noah admired the mechanism while living inside its costs. (Chapter 1142)

As Earth advances, Gervaise also refuses to extinguish every threat at the border. He judges invading Sixth-Dimensional powers too cautious to commit fully and declines to mobilize his elite troops, again making subordinates solve the crisis. Leonel increasingly understands the pattern but continues to reject its willingness to risk lives for growth. (Chapters 989, 1017, and 1047–1049)

Family return and constrained supremacy

When Leonel returns after two decades, Gervaise and his wife have both rejuvenated and entered the Seventh Dimension. Gervaise remains difficult to measure even then; a haze obscures how much strength he is actually showing. His relationship with Leonel has become familiar enough for insults and laughter, but the old conflict remains: Leonel demands answers about Earth and Velasco, while Gervaise reveals only what he believes can safely be spoken. (Chapters 1741–1742)

Gervaise's reach remains extraordinary within Earth's sphere. During the Void Battlefield disaster, an emerald pillar removes Alienor and Aina Morales so suddenly that Leonel cannot react, and Leonel attributes the rescue to either Velasco or Gervaise. The result—both women safely extracted from a distant battlefield—deepens Leonel's estimate of his grandfather, but the scene does not resolve who supplied the power or how it worked. (Chapters 2157–2158)

At the same time, the narrative establishes limits around Gervaise rather than making his inaction absolute. Leonel concludes that something restrains both the Fawkes ruler and the Four Great Families and that Gervaise cannot simply predict or stop every death. His strength is therefore most reliable inside territory tied to Earth, while action against wider powers carries political and metaphysical constraints that he often refuses to explain. The Pluto debt and the truth of the Incomplete Worlds

The wider purpose of Earth's world recasts Gervaise's entire reign. The Incomplete Worlds are not merely failed realities: their Zones can reshuffle history, test theories, generate resources, and raise warriors through accelerated development. The Pluto allocated roughly a hundred such worlds to repay a favor connected to the surviving Fawkes, provoking other great powers. Gervaise's Earth policy—manufactured pressure, selective intervention, and relentless cultivation of talent—functions on the same scale as this project. (Chapter 2219)

This revelation does not absolve him. It explains why he regards populations and worlds as strategic capital, and why he consistently chooses long-term human strength over individual safety. Leonel, having himself made mass-casualty choices, finds it harder to condemn Gervaise outright, but still refuses to accept his grandfather's secrecy or the slaughter of his own citizens. Their conflict matures from a debate about one empire into a dispute over what humanity is allowed to sacrifice in order to survive among Gods. (Chapter 2219)

Sending Leonel into wider Existence

Before the Gods' selection, Gervaise finally gives Leonel a compressed account of the Fawkes fall. The family once led human empires capable of standing alongside the God Beast Envoys, but other humans shattered its foundations out of fear that Fawkes power would antagonize the other races. Gervaise's declared aim is correspondingly expansive: to rule humanity and lead it into the World of Gods. He warns Leonel about the Four Great Families, the Dream Pavilion, the Godlens, and the Cult, but withholds details whose karmic connections might alert the people involved. (Chapters 2332–2333)

He chooses different paths for different heirs. Gervaise intends to take Earth, his wife, and Alienor with him; he leaves Noah's survival to Leonel and directs Leonel toward the Dream Pavilion. Then, after tapping Leonel's forehead, he leaves him unconscious and Leonel awakens inside the selection with faster thought, a changed internal seal, and a body apparently returned to the Fifth Dimension. The text presents Leonel's immediate deductions rather than a complete explanation of what Gervaise personally altered, so the exact mechanism remains unconfirmed. (Chapters 2333–2335)

Final command and transfer of the kingdom

In the final war, the genial grandfather gives way to Gervaise the commander. With the Human Race's fate at stake, he controls the imperial council without debate, assigns roles directly, and sends the younger Fawkes into open conflict while Leonel is placed in the crafting apparatus. His refusal to entertain dissent marks the endpoint of the governing style seen since Earth's descent: he accepts personal responsibility for the strategic choice, but not consultation over it. (Chapter 3134)

By the later battlefield, Gervaise has handed his kingdom to Leonel. The transfer fulfills the succession conflict without requiring Leonel to overthrow him, and it leaves the old emperor alive but no longer identified as the reigning sovereign. The corpus does not show the transfer itself. It does, however, retrospectively reveal that Gervaise combined the three strongest Fawkes techniques through Emperor's Edict, formed an unprecedented Idol, and became a True God at age seven. The disclosure replaces the Seventh Dimension as his latest explicit formal endpoint without showing the original formation event. (Chapters 3026, 3063, and 3259)

Appearance and personality

Gervaise first appears as an old, tall man with flowing white hair and piercing emerald eyes. Although visibly aged, he carries more vitality than Leonel and an aura that makes him seem to radiate even without light. Over the following years he becomes progressively younger, appearing in his forties by Chapter 1048 and in his thirties after entering the Seventh Dimension. Imperial robes and a controlled, upright bearing reinforce a majesty that can pressure weaker wills without an overt attack. (Chapters 321, 583–584, 1048–1049, 1089, and 1741)

His usual manner is warm, amused, and deliberately provocative. He jokes with descendants and often allows Leonel's disrespect because he enjoys their verbal contests, yet the ease is backed by unshakable confidence rather than softness. He dislikes explaining himself, conceals his intentions even from close advisers, and can turn a council from discussion to unquestioned command when he believes survival demands it. His defining contradiction is that he values the future of humanity intensely while treating present lives as resources that may be spent to secure it. (Chapters 458, 584, 971, 2332–2334, and 3134)

Abilities and cultivation

Gervaise is explicitly Seventh Dimensional by Chapter 1741, but Chapter 3026 later reveals that he formed an unprecedented Idol through Emperor's Edict and became a True God at age seven; Chapter 3063 adds that he has grown powerful enough to defeat anyone in the God Realm. The story does not show the original formation event or name a later Dimensional-cultivation endpoint for him. Even before those disclosures he can erase a threat with a projected hand, dominate a palace garden through presence alone, and act inside Earth on a scale that makes ordinary dimensional comparisons unreliable. Emperor's Might

The unmutated Fawkes Lineage Factor is Emperor's Might, a Dream Force derivative powered by subjects' belief and by the legend surrounding its user. It lets consciousness impose changes on the surroundings, falling short of a Savant's direct manifestation of thought. Unlike Leonel's King's Might, it cannot be shared with companions and depends on how others perceive the ruler rather than solely on the ruler's own mental state. Gervaise's centuries of sovereignty and the near-religious regard many Earth citizens hold for him therefore form part of the power source, although the corpus does not label every one of his pressure or projection feats as a named Emperor's Might technique. (Chapter 1103)

Emperor's Might supports coercion and perception techniques, but its social foundation is also a limitation: it grows through subjects and reputation rather than functioning as an isolated reserve. Alienor's bond with Earth's World Spirit gives her an even stronger natural base for this lineage than Gervaise himself, showing that imperial title alone does not determine output. (Chapter 1103)

Projected force and imperial pressure

Gervaise can manifest force far beyond his immediate body. A colossal hand descends over the battlefield to protect Leonel, after which the emperor speaks across the area and compels attention from armies below. In person, his released majesty buckles Leonel's knees and makes the garden feel as though its laws answer to him. These effects demonstrate long-range projection and coercive pressure, but their exact Force composition, maximum range, and duration are not explained. (Chapters 582–585)

He can also stop a son's hostile aura with a raised hand and render Leonel unconscious with a forehead tap. The latter precedes changes to Leonel's thought speed, internal seal, and dimensional presentation, but Leonel cannot tell which changes came from Gervaise and which belong to the Gods' selection. It is therefore evidence of precise intervention, not a fully specified sealing or cultivation technique. (Chapters 584 and 2334–2335)

Strategy, information, and territorial limits

Gervaise monitors distant events with exceptional accuracy, predicts how external powers will respond, and knows developments Leonel assumes are private. Some information can plausibly come from imperial networks or Dream-plane observation; the corpus does not reduce all of it to one Ability Index. His greatest demonstrated certainty is inside the Fawkes domain, where Earth, its people, and the Incomplete World project reinforce his authority. (Chapters 457–458, 1047, and 2332–2333)

Outside that sphere, he is cautious. He says that discussing karmically connected secrets can alert the relevant powers, and Leonel repeatedly infers restrictions preventing Gervaise from acting freely beyond Earth. His ability to take the Incomplete World with him is stated, but the transfer process and its cost are not shown. (Chapters 1877, 2233, and 2333)
