Darknorth Swords

The Darknorth Swords are Ji Ning's first signature sword set, named for the Dark North Sea where his parents met and conceived him.

History

A family name

Ning names the sheath and its three swords after the Dark North Sea, giving the weapons a personal connection to his parents. They become his principal close-combat weapons during his early struggles in Swallow Mountain. (Chapter 18)

Growth with their wielder

Ning repeatedly uses the Darknorth Swords against increasingly powerful foes, from Adept Xu to the forces of the imperial Qi clan. The weapons remain part of his combat repertoire as his sword-light and body-refining strength advance far beyond their early level. (Chapters 125 and 377)

A weapon reserved for the true body

Late in the story, Ning's avatar lacks the Darknorth Swords and is correspondingly weaker, demonstrating that the actual set remains with his better-equipped body rather than being duplicated for every manifestation. (Chapter 1232)

Abilities and properties

• The original set consists of a sheath and three swords suited to Ning's close-combat sword arts. (Chapter 18)
• The swords channel Ning's sword-light and physical power but do not independently account for his later strength. (Chapters 125 and 377)
• Their absence materially limits the combat power of Ning's avatar. (Chapter 1232)
