Yu Dong

Yu Dong is a calculating Wanxiang Adept who rises from an ordinary mortal by flattering stronger cultivators, manipulating allies, and secretly eliminating rivals. His part in the attack on Ji Ning's parents makes him one of Ning's earliest targets of personal revenge.

Biography

Accomplice of Dong Seven

As a younger cultivator, Yu Dong follows the Snowdragon Mountain scion Dong Seven alongside Shui Yi. When Dong Seven orders them to seize the pregnant Yuchi Snow, the attempt forces Snow's husband Ji Yichuan and brother Yuchi Mount to use life-damaging forbidden arts. The family escapes, but their injuries shape the shortened lives and suffering that follow. To Yu Dong, the crime is one disposable assignment among many; to their unborn son Ji Ning, his name becomes inseparable from the destruction of the family. (Chapters 139 and 218–219)

The real Yu Dong

Yu Dong later apprentices himself to Adept Mooncrescent and becomes the first of the old man's disciples to reach the Wanxiang level. He presents himself as respectful, supplies rare Three Immortals wine, and courts Mooncrescent's daughter Yue Wei. In private, he dominates and humiliates her, insults his master, and plans to kill Mooncrescent if the old man does not transmit the Mooncrescent Saber Formation within three years. His apparent loyalty is an investment in a powerful inheritance. (Chapter 220)

That behavior follows a lifelong pattern. Yu Dong claws upward by killing or flattering as circumstances demand. He secretly causes the deaths of clan heirs, elders, and Snowdragon Mountain geniuses while leaving no evidence. Even Dong Seven was ultimately a useful chess piece rather than a true master. Protective formations and a carefully maintained public face conceal him from ordinary investigators, but Ning's divine sense observes both the deferential disciple and the private schemer. (Chapter 220)

Ning's revenge

Ning arrives at Mount Mooncrescent with Mu Northson and the Whitewater Hound, locks the surrounding space, and asks to question Yu Dong alone. Yu Dong instantly understands that separation from his master means death and maneuvers Mooncrescent into remaining as protection. He cannot identify the old crime behind the visit because he has committed too many concealed murders and no longer remembers the victims clearly. (Chapters 220–221)

The confrontation becomes fatal when Mooncrescent resists the Raindragon Guard demand and Ning kills him. Faced with an opponent whose divine will can momentarily stun him and whose power has already erased his protector, Yu Dong begs and searches for a bargain. Ning names Yuchi Mount, Yuchi Snow, and Ji Yichuan, forcing him to recognize the unborn child from the long-ago ambush. Yu Dong dies in Chapter 222; Ning later confirms the killing to Northmont Baiwei. (Chapters 222–223 and 250)

Appearance and personality

Yu Dong is short and ugly, but normally appears calm, honest, and respectful. His lack of beauty ceases to matter after his rapid rise to Wanxiang cultivation.

The public demeanor is a deliberate mask. In private he is sadistic, ambitious, patient, and intensely calculating. He understands how institutions such as the Raindragon Guard constrain his master and how to keep a protector involved in a dangerous dispute. His central failure is moral and mnemonic rather than intellectual: the people he destroys matter so little to him that he cannot recognize which buried crime has returned to kill him.

Abilities and cultivation

Wanxiang cultivation

Yu Dong reaches the Wanxiang Adept level within a few decades, a fast advancement that makes Mooncrescent consider him the natural inheritor of the lineage. Wanxiang cultivation permits the Myriad Manifestations and places him far above ordinary Zifu Disciples, but Ning confronts him after developing strength capable of instantly killing even peak Wanxiang experts. The rank therefore offers no viable defense in their final encounter. (Chapters 220–222)

Concealment and formations

Yu Dong wards his estate with formations that block entry, sound, and ordinary scrying, allowing him to maintain a private life completely unlike his public one. These are prepared environmental defenses, not an invulnerable personal art. Ning's much stronger divine sense penetrates the concealment and watches him without warning. The Whitewater Hound's larger spacelock formation then prevents escape from the mountain. (Chapter 220)

Intrigue and intelligence

Yu Dong's most effective “ability” is social concealment. He can sustain a false persona before his master, turn stronger young masters into tools, and arrange deaths without being identified by Snowdragon Mountain or routine Heavenly Treasures Mountain reports. This expertise works only while the power gap remains manageable. Against Ning's direct observation and overwhelming force, intrigue cannot substitute for combat power. (Chapters 219–222)

Sought-after saber formation

Yu Dong seeks the Mooncrescent Saber Formation, an inheritance left by a deceased Loose Immortal and considered more powerful than Snowdragon Mountain's arts. He has not received it before Ning arrives and is still planning how to force or steal the transmission. It must therefore be treated as an ambition, not one of his demonstrated techniques. (Chapter 220)
