Hegemon Welkin

Hegemon Welkin is an independent Chaos Godbeast who wanders many realmverses and otherverses. Wounded during his travels, he sleeps in the Flamedragon Realmverse until Crimsonwave Temple's emergence draws him back into public view.

Biography

Hidden observer

Welkin initially watches events in the Waveshift Realm with Hegemon Brightshore. He assesses the era's Daolords, recognizes Ning's astonishing growth, and awakens from a long healing sleep when Crimsonwave Temple appears. The realmverse's Eternal Emperors are startled because they believed only three Hegemons were present; Welkin explains that he entered after sustaining injuries and had intended to leave quietly. (Chapters 1105–1110 and 1138)

Bargain for deepfire blackstone

Ning needs deepfire blackstone for the Northbow swords, and Welkin alone can take him to the required deposit. The Hegemon transports Ning and Ninedust through the Great Dark in a high-speed vessel and accepts one hundred coldflame cauldron fruits as payment. Ning's swords consume the otherwise nearly indestructible ore, while the transaction also opens a hidden route connected to the Stone Hellephant Wall. (Chapters 1138–1142)

Wandering Chaos Godbeast

Later explanation identifies Welkin and Azurefiend as the only Hegemons known to have arisen from their Chaos Godbeast race. Unlike Brightshore, they do not settle down to shepherd weaker members of their kind, but wander alone as they have since youth. Welkin's travels include a continuing search for the rare materials needed to complete his Hegemonic secret art. (Chapters 1189 and 1272)

Appearance and personality

Welkin appears as a horned youth. He is observant, independent, and private, preferring to recover and depart without attracting the realmverse's powers. His bargain with Ning is direct and comparatively restrained: despite controlling the only access to the needed ore, he asks for one hundred fruits rather than all of Ning's supply. (Chapters 1105, 1138, and 1141)

Abilities and cultivation

Hegemon-level power

Welkin has succeeded in the Daomerge as a Chaos Godbeast and reached Hegemon status, an extremely rare achievement for his race. Deepfire blackstone remains beyond even his power to break, supplying a concrete limit: he can locate and transport others to the ore but cannot mine it by brute force. (Chapters 1141–1142 and 1272)

Hegemonic secret art

He has trained only part of a Hegemonic secret art because its later stage requires an enormous collection of rare materials. Welkin wanders multiple realmverses and otherverses seeking them, yet still lacks some components. The account demonstrates that even Hegemon-level techniques can be resource-limited rather than unlocked by insight alone. (Chapter 1189)

Great Dark travel

Welkin owns and operates a dazzling deep-blue vessel capable of carrying passengers through the lightless Great Dark between realmverses. The journey establishes both his navigational experience and access to transportation suitable for distances that ordinary Eternal Emperors find daunting. (Chapters 1139–1141)

Relationships

  • Ji Ning: Welkin evaluates Ning's talent and later trades access to deepfire blackstone for coldflame cauldron fruits. (Chapters 1105–1142)
  • Hegemon Brightshore: Fellow observer who knows Welkin's hidden presence and introduces him to the realmverse's powers. (Chapters 1105–1138)
  • Hegemon Azurefiend: The only other wandering Chaos Godbeast identified as having reached Hegemon status. (Chapter 1272)

Items

  • Deep-blue flying vessel: Carries Welkin, Ning, and Ninedust through the Great Dark. (Chapters 1139–1141)
  • Coldflame cauldron fruits: One hundred fruits received as payment for guiding Ning to deepfire blackstone. (Chapter 1141)
