Daolord Graceful
Daolord Graceful is one of the three vice sectlords of the Ninedust Sect. A fourth-step Ki Refiner specializing in soft, yin-aligned long-range attacks, he survives Ji Ning's defeat of the vice sectlords by revealing a rare spacetime escape seal.
Biography
Debate over the Eastroad Sect
Graceful serves beneath the newly installed Ninedust Sectlord alongside Daolords Clevermind and Bruteflame. When the Eastroad Sect refuses a ten-year ultimatum to abandon its home, Graceful asks how the Ninedust Sect should respond. He agrees with Clevermind that a siege is safer than storming formations left by the powerful Patriarch Eastroad. The territory can be taken immediately while the trapped sect declines over several chaos cycles; an assault offers unnecessary risk. (Chapter 1028)
The Sectlord interprets that advice as resistance to his authority and orders the attack. Graceful yields respectfully. When the first subordinate falls to a supposedly second-step opponent, the Sectlord commands all three vice sectlords to attack simultaneously. Graceful initially argues that he and Bruteflame should be enough, but again obeys when ordered to end the matter without delay. (Chapters 1028–1029)
Battle with Darknorth
The unnamed defender is Ji Ning. Graceful is astonished when Ning matches Bruteflame's raw strength, then fills the battlefield with dense black mist and attacks through something swimming within it. He remains at range while Clevermind fights with six hammers and Bruteflame presses with his giant body. Their complementary pressure holds Ning at a temporary disadvantage, but they mistake his sustained power for a short-lived divine ability and wait for exhaustion that never comes. (Chapter 1030)
When Ning finally releases the nine novessence arts, Graceful immediately recognizes that contact will kill him. The energy blasts away his treasures before they can defend him. He crushes a black disc-shaped Dao-seal whose light carries him out despite battle-distorted spacetime. Clevermind also escapes by a different trump card, while Bruteflame is reduced and captured. Ning is surprised that the quiet, unremarkable Graceful possessed such a rare escape treasure. (Chapter 1031)
Graceful returns to the Ninedust Shrine and waits with Clevermind. When the latter can no longer sense the Sectlord, Graceful correctly infers that the Eastroad Sect hides a location capable of blocking communication over entire territories. The two keep the shrine stationed outside for more than one hundred thousand years, but their sectlord does not return. Graceful's fate after that vigil is not stated. (Chapter 1035)
Appearance and personality
The corpus does not provide a stable physical portrait for Graceful. His title should not be treated as a literal description without further evidence.
Graceful is cautious, observant, and outwardly obedient. He repeatedly recommends proportionate force, recognizes mortal danger faster than his companions, and preserves himself with a concealed resource. His caution is pragmatic rather than moral: once ordered, he helps invade the Eastroad Sect and tries to overwhelm an apparently weaker opponent three against one.
Abilities and cultivation
Fourth-step Daolord
Graceful is a Daolord of the Fourth Step, meaning he has brought his personal Dao to its final pre-Daomerge stage. He is weaker than Clevermind and lacks Bruteflame's special-lifeform body, but remains strong enough that he and Bruteflame expect to defeat even a freakishly powerful second-step Daolord together. Ning's exceptional Omega Dao makes that normal realm comparison fail. (Chapters 1028–1030)
Long-range Ki-refining combat
Unlike Bruteflame, Graceful is a Ki Refiner who avoids close combat. He controls magic treasures from a distance while partners occupy the enemy, adding attacks without exposing his physical body. This role works during the coordinated three-on-one exchange, but it leaves him vulnerable when the nine novessence arts seize the entire area and knock his remote weapons out of control. (Chapters 1030–1031)
Black mist and yin principles
Graceful generates dense, persistent black mist that Ning's Dao aura cannot disperse. A hidden presence swims through the mist and launches toward the target, leading Ning to identify the method as based on soft, yin principles. Rather than meeting force directly, it obscures and penetrates from range. Ning's six-sword defense blocks it, and the corpus does not name the moving treasure or show the mist independently injuring him. (Chapter 1030)
Spacetime escape seal
Graceful's most valuable safeguard is a black disc-shaped Dao-seal covered in rippling runes. Crushing it surrounds him with black light and teleports him away even though the ongoing battle has distorted spacetime enough to prevent normal teleportation. The seal is consumable and exceptional; it saves Graceful once, but the narrative does not establish that he owns another. (Chapter 1031)
Tactical assessment
Graceful accurately assesses the danger of Eastroad's inherited formations, Ning's novessence field, and the likely isolation of the missing Sectlord. These judgments guide survival, but hierarchy limits their effect: he obeys the Sectlord's reckless assault despite advising a siege. (Chapters 1028–1035)
