Autarch Bolin

Autarch Bolin is one of the leaders of the cultivator civilization. His long study of life and death produces both entire races and, at the edge of death, the second Daobirth Essence that lets him survive the Sithe's Grassland World.

Biography

Legacies prepared against the Sithe

Bolin's estate-worlds preserve the thinking of a civilization that once expected to lose the Dawn War. His retainers left hundreds of Hegemon legacies for future cultivators, while simulated Sithe Black Emperors and Silver Daolords test entrants under rules that scale the danger without killing them. The system is not merely a treasure cache: it builds experience, which Bolin considers indispensable to anyone hoping to approach Autarchy. The history is also personal. His disciple Hegemon Bazu died fighting the Sithe, and the worlds ensure that Bazu's inheritance and the wider cultivator resistance can survive their creators. (Chapters 1158–1169)

Creation and the study of life

By the era of Ji Ning, Bolin is a tired-looking, white-haired man who remembers having once been dashing. His foundational achievement is the Claw Daobirth Essence, yet much of his later life is spent studying life and death. He creates the Aeonian race despite not mastering the Life Daobirth Essence, demonstrating that an Autarch can use broad insight to create living systems outside his primary path. Other creations survive in his estates, including the verdant azuresoul later used to tame Flamewing. Bolin openly admits that acquiring a second Daobirth Essence remains extraordinarily difficult even for him. (Chapters 1322 and 1391)

The Grassland World

During the final Sithe war, Bolin becomes trapped inside the Grassland World. He negotiates with three void dwellers so that they absorb part of the enemy pressure, then uses six arms and claw-arts to maintain an airtight defense while the Golden Bridge supports him. The arrangement delays defeat but does not remove the power gap. Six violet-gold chains eventually overwhelm the defense and destroy his body, causing the other Autarchs to believe that his aura has vanished forever. (Chapters 1425–1426)

At the brink of true death, Bolin's accumulated study finally becomes a breakthrough. He masters the Samsara Daobirth Essence and enters a state of false death in which he is neither conventionally alive nor dead: his aura disappears, karma is severed, and his remaining energy disperses so completely that the Sithe cannot find it. An ownerless message-talisman then informs his allies that he survived, and an avatar confirms his identity. With both Claw and Samsara under his control, Bolin can combine their effects and is stronger than before. He remains hidden within the Grassland World and tracks it from inside, turning what appeared to be his death into the intelligence needed for a cultivator ambush. (Chapters 1426–1428)

Final campaign

Bolin returns to the united Autarch force during the last struggle against Iyerre. His survival preserves one of the civilization's irreplaceable leaders at the moment when the Sithe are spending their final reserves. He remains alive through Ning's victory and the binding of the Chaosverse. (Chapters 1431–1450)

Appearance and personality

Bolin is described as a white-haired man whose face looks tired; he notes that he was dashing when younger. He thinks in the long term, preparing worlds and educational trials for people he may never meet. That patience coexists with calculated risk: inside the Grassland World he bargains with dangerous void dwellers and accepts lethal pressure because remaining hidden gives the cultivators a strategic advantage. His breakthrough is therefore the culmination of both a lifetime of research and a refusal to abandon his role when his body is destroyed. (Chapters 1158–1169, 1322, and 1425–1428)

Claw Daobirth Essence

Bolin's original path is the Claw Daobirth Essence, a source-level mastery rather than a single martial move. In direct battle he manifests six arms and uses claw-strikes to meet attacks from several directions, creating a defense described as airtight. Against the Grassland World's chains, however, even that defense can only delay an enemy formation built to kill Autarchs. (Chapters 1322 and 1425–1426)

Samsara Daobirth Essence

The Samsara Daobirth Essence grows from Bolin's research into life, death, and the transition between them. Its first demonstrated effect places him in false death: ordinary aura and karmic connections vanish while his dispersed energy remains capable of returning. This is not simple regeneration after an intact body is wounded. His body has already been destroyed, and the new Essence changes his relationship to life and death sufficiently to hide him from both enemy senses and karma. Once recovered, he can combine Samsara with Claw, giving him a second source-level path and a new basis for combat. (Chapters 1426–1428)

Creation of living races

Bolin creates the Aeonians through his understanding of life even though Life is not his Daobirth Essence. The feat distinguishes practical creation from source-level mastery: he can design a race whose members consume cultivators to evolve, but the narrative does not identify him as the Autarch of Life. His estate creations and verdant azuresoul show the same ability to engineer living systems for specific purposes. (Chapter 1322)

Legacy and training systems

His estate-worlds combine formation control, artificial opponents, and inherited techniques into controlled trials. Black Emperor and Silver Daolord simulations adapt to the entrant, while the governing rules prevent the trials from becoming indiscriminate executions. These systems express Bolin's strategic ability to preserve knowledge and manufacture experience across generations. (Chapters 1158–1169)

Equipment and limits

The Golden Bridge helps Bolin resist the Grassland World, but it is a treasure rather than an innate expression of either Daobirth Essence. His story also establishes firm limits: he cannot simply overpower the six chains, his physical body is destroyed, and a second Daobirth Essence only emerges after aeons of study and an actual death crisis.
