Gedon's Shield

Gedon's Shield is a transforming shield among the weapons once wielded by Vermouth Lionheart. It became Cyan Lionheart's principal defensive relic and can divert intercepted attacks into empty space. (Chapters 18, 87, and 141)

History

Reserved for Cyan

After Vermouth's era, Gedon's Shield was preserved in the Lionheart treasury. Eugene considered taking it at thirteen but rejected it because its defensive effect consumed enormous mana. When he later requested several of Vermouth's weapons, Gilead reserved the shield for Cyan, whose sword-and-shield training made the relic a better match. (Chapters 18 and 87)

Cyan received the shield by the time of the Black Lion Castle hunt. It normally rested as a vambrace around his left forearm and unfolded into a full shield on command. During an ambush, he successfully redirected a powerful attack, but the defense drained a substantial portion of his mana and immediately demonstrated why the relic could not be treated as absolute protection. (Chapters 140–141)

Loan against Raizakia

Before Eugene fought Raizakia, Cyan lent him Gedon's Shield because defense was the support Eugene most needed. Eugene used it selectively against the dragon's Breath, beams, dark power, and magical explosions. Rather than testing its limit against every direct strike, he evaded when possible and intercepted only the threats that would otherwise stop his advance, preserving enough mana to continue fighting. (Chapters 295 and 297–300)

The shield later returned to Cyan; he is shown carrying it together with Azphel while preparing to defend the Black Lion Castle. No destruction, loss, or subsequent transfer is established in the supplied corpus, so Cyan remains its latest confirmed holder. (Chapter 452)

Abilities and properties

  • The shield transforms between a compact vambrace and a deployed guard, allowing the wearer to carry it without continuously occupying a hand. (Chapter 141)
  • On contact, it sends an incoming attack into empty space or redirects it into nothing, neutralizing physical force, light, dark power, and magical effects that it can successfully intercept. (Chapters 141 and 297–300)
  • The effect is not invincible. An attack exceeding the user's mana limit cannot be completely blocked, and stronger interceptions consume correspondingly greater amounts of mana. (Chapters 141 and 297)
  • Its best use is selective rather than passive. Against Raizakia, Eugene combined it with movement and spatial evasion because repeatedly receiving dragon-scale attacks head-on risked exhausting him. (Chapters 297–300)
