Dragon Spear Kharbos

The Dragon Spear Kharbos is a large magical spear capable of firing bombardments modeled on a dragon's Breath. Vermouth Lionheart used it to erase mountains, and Eugene Lionheart later adopted it as a high-output ranged weapon. (Chapters 18, 89, and 110)

History

A weapon of the ancient journey

Kharbos had a history before Vermouth acquired it, although the supplied corpus does not identify its maker or earlier owner. Vermouth collected it during the hero party's journey and demonstrated its scale by making mountains disappear with its shots. Afterward, the spear entered the Lionheart treasury with his other weapons. (Chapters 89 and 180)

Eugene saw Kharbos in the treasury at thirteen but rejected it because its style did not suit him and its heavy mana demand exceeded his resources. When he returned six years later, his reserves and magical training had grown enough for him to borrow Kharbos together with Altair, Azphel, and Pernoa. (Chapters 18 and 87–89)

Eugene's bombardments

Kharbos saw its clearest early use when Eugene fired it at Barang from a distance. The shot struck before ordinary reaction to its launch sound would have been enough to evade and hurled the beastfolk away, though it caused only minor injuries to that unusually durable opponent. Eugene later combined the spear's Breath-like attack with Pernoa's lightning and Prominence's bombardment against Jagon. (Chapters 110 and 264)

In battle with Raizakia, comparison with a true dragon clarified the weapon's limits: Kharbos imitates Breath and offers extraordinary force for a simpler activation, but it cannot match the full Breath of a powerful dragon. Eugene still retained the spear late enough to offer it while considering treasures he no longer used often. The offer did not result in a confirmed transfer, leaving him as its last established custodian. (Chapters 296 and 510)

Abilities and properties

• A thrust can release a powerful ranged bombardment comparable in form to a dragon's Breath, without requiring the wielder to construct a complicated spell formula. (Chapters 18 and 110)
• Its output is efficient relative to the mana invested: the weapon produces destructive force far greater than ordinary magic using the same expenditure. Vermouth's mastery raised its demonstrated scale to the destruction of mountains. (Chapters 89 and 110)
• The spear consumes a large quantity of mana and requires a cooldown between shots. These costs made it unsuitable for the young Eugene and prevent unbroken fire without sufficient reserves and tactical compensation. (Chapter 18)
• Kharbos does not reproduce a dragon's Breath perfectly. Its projectile is weaker than a true Breath, and a sufficiently durable target can survive a direct hit. (Chapters 110 and 296)
• It can be combined with other ranged weapons for layered bombardment, as Eugene demonstrated by firing Kharbos and Pernoa during the same sequence. (Chapter 264)
