Demon King of Destruction
The Demon King of Destruction is the recurrent calamity that ends eras and the final enemy of the Divine Army. Its existence is bound to a cycle in which a mortal takes the throne, devours beyond his capacity, and becomes Destruction; the incarnation fought in the present era is linked to an ancient bearer named Vermouth and to the separate avatar who becomes Vermouth Lionheart. Biography
The Divine Army and the Demon Kings
The Demon King of Destruction remains suppressed for three centuries while Vermouth uses his avatar body to contain it and the Demon King of Incarceration maintains the world's wider cycle. When the seal fails after Incarceration's defeat, Destruction appears over Pandemonium through Vermouth's body, releases nullifying colors and Nur, and nearly forces the exhausted Divine Army to sacrifice itself merely to buy time. Incarceration imprisons it once more, allowing Eugene Lionheart, Sienna, Molon, and the Saints to recover and enter its colorless interior. There they awaken Vermouth's will, reach the ancient wound at Destruction's heart, and destroy its essence. Its body, Nur, dark power, and interior world then collapse, while Vermouth's soul survives through a separate chain-bound vessel. (Chapters 570, 586, 595–602, and 607–614)
Appearance and personality
Destruction has no stable ordinary body. Outside, it manifests as an enormous, grotesque convergence of dizzying colors and dark power whose proximity inspires instinctive terror; at Pandemonium those colors overlay Vermouth's avatar and erase or reverse attacks. Inside the entity is a dead, entirely white world containing an old wound, a throne, and a heart-like essence. The body through which it approaches Eugene has Vermouth's shape but hollow eyes and no personal killing intent. (Chapters 595–596 and 602–607)
Its behavior is closer to compulsion than a human personality. Destruction possesses mind-breaking malice and repeatedly drives the world toward its next era, but the narrative says it has no considered reason to destroy and never completes annihilation before the world resets. Vermouth's consciousness can resist from within the avatar, while the central essence reacts as the destroyer of the world rather than conversing as an ordinary sovereign. (Chapters 598–602 and 607)
Abilities and powers
Destruction produces Nur as extensions of its calamity and saturates the world with dark power. Its shifting colors nullify spirit manifestations, reverse lightning, restore torn earth, extinguish fire, erase bodies, and corrupt whatever they touch. Mere arrival overwhelms veteran combatants with fear, while a full awakening is expected to proliferate Nur or directly wipe away the world. These effects make conventional formations and attritional battle ineffective. (Chapters 570, 595–601)
Its greatest defense is existential scale: opponents enter its own vast interior and must reach the one wound that never healed across repeated eras. The entity can manipulate Vermouth's avatar, replace destroyed terrain or attacks through its colors, and erode bodies, mana, divine power, and souls. It is not invulnerable, however. Agaroth's ancient wound supplies a path to its core, Vermouth can resist internally, Incarceration's chains can temporarily seal it, and the combined conviction and attacks of Eugene's party finally destroy the heart. - Vermouth Lionheart: Vermouth is a split avatar born from Destruction's wound. He spends three centuries suppressing the source that created him, briefly loses bodily control when it manifests, and then helps his companions reach and destroy the core. His soul separates from Destruction before his avatar body disintegrates. (Chapters 586, 595–613)
- Demon King of Incarceration: Incarceration survives repeated eras in hopes that someone will eventually kill Destruction. He maintains cycles rather than defeating it himself, seals its sudden manifestation after Pandemonium, and witnesses Eugene's party complete the outcome he could not achieve. (Chapters 586, 595–613)
- Eugene Lionheart: Eugene treats Destruction as the final enemy rather than accepting another postponed era. He enters its interior, restores Vermouth's agency, converts the world's wish for victory into power, and destroys the core while insisting that Vermouth be saved as well. (Chapters 599–614)
