Penance
History
Kiuran introduces Penance as the Abidan-backed prize for the Uncrowned King tournament, preventing the Monarchs from ignoring the result. After Yerin wins, the black arrowhead transfers to her and she chooses Seshethkunaaz as its target. The weapon vanishes in use and kills the dragon Monarch without an ordinary contest of strength. (Chapters 143, 145, 147–148, 150, 154, 164, 169–171)
Properties and use
Penance is described as carrying guaranteed death against a chosen valid target. It bypasses the defensive scale that normally protects Monarchs, which makes possession politically decisive even before activation. The original is single-use; Lindon's later Penance arrows are Soulsmith imitations made from Dreadgod materials rather than the same artifact. (Chapters 143, 145, 147–148, 150, 154, 164, 169–171)
