Cassias Arelius

Cassias Arelius is a recurring supporting character in Cradle. Arelius administrator who oversees the Blackflame Trials, challenges Eithan's timetable, protects his family during the Jai massacre, and reveals himself as the Empire's second-ranked Highgold.

Biography

Family duty under Eithan

Former heir serving the man who replaced him while separated from wife and child. The governing motive is to repay Eithan, protect the Arelius, and keep the students alive. Acting on that priority, the character operates Sky's Mercy and the Trials, confronts Eithan, races home during the Jai attack, kills nine Highgolds, trains Yerin, and shelters refugees. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including loyalty to Eithan versus duty to family and dependents. (Chapters 44, 48, 55, 56, 58, 71, 72, 73, 74, 79, 81)

Books 9–12

Manages Arelius responsibilities amid refugees and Dreadgod war. The governing motive is to preserve family and city. Acting on that priority, the character walks and inspects city; receives Eithan's return; helps organize defenses/refugees. The resulting choices connect the character to the phase's central relationships and pressures, including burden created by Eithan's secrets. (Chapters 200–201, 225, 241)

Blond Arelius noble with impeccable conduct and a silver bracer Goldsign. Responsible, family-centered, proud, politically aware, skeptical of Eithan's recklessness, and formidable when loved ones are threatened. Responsible, observant, practical family administrator.
