Fallen Heart Flame

The Fallen Heart Flame is an invisible Heavenly Flame whose long-formed intelligence appears as a giant fire python. Jia Nan Academy confines it beneath the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower and channels its divided Heart Flames to accelerate student cultivation. After the spirit breaks its seals and survives a three-way contest involving the academy, Han Feng, and Xiao Yan, Xiao Yan refines its essence and later leaves a derivative flame with the academy. History

The power beneath the tower

Xiao Yan first encounters the flame indirectly when an invisible spark forms inside his heart in the Blazing Sky Qi Refining Tower. Dou Qi passed through that spark becomes smaller but denser, revealing the principle behind the tower's training effect. Yao Lao identifies the spark as a divided flame rather than the original essence and locates the true Fallen Heart Flame beneath the tower. The academy's system invokes these divided Heart Flames inside nearby cultivators, allowing them to temper their pathways and refine Dou Qi under controlled conditions. (Chapters 457–458)

The original flame has already developed a Fire Spirit: an enormous invisible python capable of recognizable anger, calculation, and desire. The academy does not command this being. It confines the spirit with a spatial cage, the tower's seals, and emergency formations while drawing usable divided flames from it. Yao Lao warns that this arrangement stores pressure rather than resolving it, and the spirit's repeated assaults confirm that containment is an adversarial custodial relationship rather than ownership. Escape and competing attempts to capture it

When the Fallen Heart Flame erupts, it breaks successive barriers and forces Su Qian, the Inner Academy elders, and later Outer Academy reinforcements into a prolonged sealing battle. Its invisible fire distorts space, its fire-python body can strike physically, and its sound and flame attacks wear down teams of Dou Wang and Dou Zong defenders. Because it has its own intelligence and actively seeks freedom, this phase is best described as escape from containment, not an unattended treasure becoming available. (Chapters 586–593)

Han Feng brings Black-Corner Region experts to seize the flame during the crisis. The spirit, however, recognizes the Heavenly Flames carried by both Han Feng and Xiao Yan as sources it can swallow to strengthen itself. The would-be hunters therefore also become targets. Han Feng never secures custody: the battle exhausts the Fire Spirit, but Xiao Yan is the person it drags through the broken tower into the magma world below. (Chapters 599, 603–615)

Refinement beneath the academy

Underground, the Fire Spirit attempts to incinerate and consume Xiao Yan. He survives inside it through the protection of his Green Lotus Core Flame and the Flame Mantra, then spends roughly two years within the magma confronting, absorbing, and refining the Fallen Heart Flame's essence. The result is not a tame continuation of the old python personality. Xiao Yan integrates the flame with his existing Heavenly Flame, producing the jade-green Glazed Lotus Heart Flame while retaining the ability to separate the invisible component. Xiao Yan's emergence reveals the cost to the academy: with the original essence gone, the Heart Flames inside the tower begin to fade and its cultivation function approaches collapse. At Su Qian's request, Xiao Yan separates part of his refined Fallen Heart Flame and places it in a container prepared by the academy's headmaster. This substitute restores the tower at reduced strength and can persist for one or two years if enough flame is supplied, after which Xiao Yan must replenish it. It is therefore a maintained derivative, not the return of the former Fire Spirit. (Chapter 625)

Xiao Yan later separates the invisible flame in front of Han Feng. Its appearance confirms that he refined the object Han Feng failed to capture, and its Summoning Heart Flame effect forces Han Feng to divide his attention and Dou Qi to suppress internal fire. (Chapter 639)

Abilities and properties

• Heart-born ignition: The flame can create an invisible divided spark within a nearby cultivator's heart. In the tower, Dou Qi passed through that spark is compressed and refined; without careful control, the same internal heat burns pathways, bones, muscles, and organs. (Chapters 457–458)
• Continuous cultivation after refinement: Once refined, it can generate Heart Flame within its user's body without constant conscious direction, repeatedly tempering Dou Qi and thereby accelerating cultivation. The tower imitates this benefit for many students through divided flames and containment infrastructure. (Chapters 458 and 604)
• Intelligent Fire Spirit: Before Xiao Yan refines it, the accumulated flame has the form and agency of a giant invisible python. It recognizes enemies, remembers Su Qian, seeks other Heavenly Flames as nourishment, changes tactics against formations, and can exhaust large groups of academy experts. (Chapters 474–475, 586–593, and 604–615)
• Invisible heat and direct offense: Its emitted fire is difficult to perceive, distorts space, and can ignite inside a target rather than approaching only from outside. Han Feng can suppress a summoned Heart Flame with concentrated Dou Qi, but doing so weakens his available fighting strength and attention. (Chapters 586–590 and 639)
• Division and renewal: After refinement, Xiao Yan can separate out an invisible cluster and can create more while his Dou Qi lasts. The academy's special container preserves a supplied derivative beyond the normal disappearance of a summoned flame, though its output is weaker and requires periodic replenishment. (Chapters 625 and 639)
• Combination with another Heavenly Flame: Xiao Yan merges it with the Green Lotus Core Flame to form a more powerful jade-green flame and can later split the components when needed. This compatibility is enabled by Xiao Yan's Flame Mantra; it is not evidence that unrefined Heavenly Flames normally coexist peacefully. (Chapters 624 and 639)
