Black Demon Cauldron

The Black Demon Cauldron, often called simply Black Demon, is Yao Lao's prized medicinal cauldron and the eighth entry on the Heavenly Cauldron Ranking. He uses it while in soul form for difficult tier-six work, while a personal spiritual imprint prevents Xiao Yan from treating temporary storage of the vessel as permission or ability to use it. (Chapters 238, 538–541)

History

Yao Lao's ranked cauldron

Yao Lao summons the cauldron from the ancient black ring when preparing the Breaking Adversity Pill. It is solid black and table-sized in its first appearance, with flame images across its body that seem almost real and draw surrounding fire energy. Yao Lao identifies it by name, explains that only thirteen vessels appear on the Heavenly Cauldron Ranking, and states that he paid a great price to obtain the eighth-ranked Black Demon. The earlier seller and exact acquisition circumstances are not supplied. (Chapter 238)

Its appearance signals that the refinement exceeds what Yao Lao wishes to attempt in his palm while limited to a spirit state. The cauldron gives him a stable vessel for divided flames and multiple ingredients, raising the likelihood of success, but the chapter still attributes precision and control to Yao Lao. Black Demon is exceptional equipment, not an autonomous alchemist. (Chapter 238)

Ground Spirit Pill refinement

Yao Lao summons the cauldron again for the tier-six Ground Spirit Pill. By this point Xiao Yan understands its value and wants to use it, but Yao Lao explains that the cauldron carries his spiritual imprint and will not answer Xiao Yan as it does its owner. He says he could remove that imprint after regaining a suitable body; this is a future possibility, not a documented transfer or completed gift within the cited sequence. (Chapter 538)

Black Demon takes longer to warm than an ordinary cauldron because of its extraordinary quality, after which it endures the force of refined rank-six materials that would pierce lesser vessels. Its stable interior lets Yao Lao maintain precise temperatures through a multi-day refinement and withstand the violent formation of the pill. Once the Ground Spirit Pill is complete, Yao Lao stores Black Demon back in the black ring. (Chapters 539–541)

Abilities and properties

  • Black Demon ranks eighth among the thirteen vessels on the Heavenly Cauldron Ranking. That rank reflects its exceptional refining quality, but the corpus does not assign a separate combat rank or offensive power. (Chapter 238)
  • Flame patterns on its black body appear lifelike, and the vessel naturally gathers nearby flame energy. This assists its role as a refining environment without establishing that it generates a Heavenly Flame of its own. (Chapter 238)
  • Its quality improves the chance of success and provides enough durability for aggressive high-tier ingredients whose energy would damage ordinary cauldrons. It also requires more initial warming than lesser vessels. (Chapters 238, 539)
  • Yao Lao's spiritual imprint restricts another alchemist's use. Xiao Yan can physically carry the ring in which the cauldron is stored and can admire the vessel, but cannot freely operate Black Demon while that imprint remains. (Chapter 538)
  • The demonstrated refinements still depend on Yao Lao's Bone Chilling Flame, spiritual control, formula knowledge, and continuous multi-day labor. The cauldron does not supply those competencies. (Chapters 238, 538–541)

Ownership and custody

Holder or custodianRelationship to the item
Yao LaoOwner, imprint holder, and principal demonstrated user. He states that he paid heavily to obtain Black Demon and repeatedly controls it during tier-six refinement. (Chapters 238, 538–541)
Xiao YanPhysical custodian only while Yao Lao and the cauldron reside inside the black ring he wears. Yao Lao explicitly says the spiritual imprint prevents Xiao Yan from using it at that stage, so storage does not establish ownership. (Chapters 238, 538)
