Ya Fei
Ya Fei is the Primer Auction House's leading Wu Tan City auctioneer and later the woman who takes control of the Primer clan. Her value to Xiao Yan lies not in battlefield cultivation but in her judgment: she turns an anonymous supplier into a lasting commercial relationship, protects the Xiao clan during his absence, and builds an intelligence network for the war against the Misty Cloud Sect. (Chapters 22–24, 105, 677, 689, 697–703)
Biography
Wu Tan City auctioneer
Ya Fei is introduced controlling a crowded auction with her voice, timing, and understanding of bidders. When Xiao Yan anonymously sells a Foundation Elixir under a black robe, she tries to learn who the hidden alchemist is but backs away when he refuses, preserves the transaction, and offers a Primer VIP card with reduced fees. Her choice favors a valuable long-term supplier over the short-term temptation to force information from him. (Chapters 22–24)
The commercial link survives the discovery of Xiao Yan's identity. Ya Fei prepares ingredients and travel supplies, recognizes that he refined the Xiao clan's healing medicine, and agrees to watch over the clan after he leaves Wu Tan City. Both acknowledge that their early dealings contain calculation, yet the farewell also establishes a sibling-like affection: Xiao Yan calls her “Ya Fei-jie,” and she looks forward to his return without pretending that their profitable partnership has ceased to matter. (Chapter 105)
Primer leader and protector of the Xiao clan
In the imperial capital, Ya Fei advances far beyond her branch-auction role. Three years after Xiao Yan's departure, she controls the Primer clan, has raised it above the other great clans, and has helped the surviving Xiao clan remain hidden under Primer protection. That decision places her own institution in the Misty Cloud Sect's path; when the sect attacks the Primer estate, she directs the clan amid what appears likely to become its extermination until Xiao Yan returns. (Chapters 677, 685–689)
Ya Fei also builds the information network behind the alliance's decisions. Her reports help expose an outside force working through the Misty Cloud Sect, she keeps watch on the sect while Hai Bodong negotiates with the capital's other powers, and a message from her alerts the coalition to Yun Shan's planned wedding. Before the decisive battle, she confirms that the Primer elites are assembled and ready, knowingly committing the clan she leads to a life-or-death confrontation. (Chapters 689, 697, 703)
Appearance and personality
Ya Fei is introduced in a red robe at the center of the auction hall, with a mature beauty and a clear, charming voice capable of holding the room. Later descriptions emphasize bright-red fitted clothing and the poise with which she moves through the Primer headquarters. The narration repeatedly notices her allure, but her professional success depends on how deliberately she uses atmosphere rather than on appearance alone. (Chapters 22–24, 274)
She is observant, controlled under pressure, and comfortable mixing warmth with calculation. Ya Fei notices inconsistencies in the disguised seller, offers concrete benefits instead of escalating when questions fail, and later directs clan business even while facing political destruction. Her loyalty to Xiao Yan is real, but it is expressed through choices—shelter, information, reopened auction houses, and mobilized personnel—that remain grounded in her institutional responsibilities. (Chapters 24, 105, 677, 689, 697, 703)
Abilities and cultivation
Auctioneering and negotiation
Ya Fei can raise bids on ordinary goods by managing attention, pacing, and the mood of the room. More importantly, she understands supplier risk: after failing to identify Xiao Yan's disguised “teacher,” she does not threaten or expose him, but instead lowers the auction fee and invites repeat business. That combination of curiosity, restraint, and tangible incentive secures the Primer house a recurring relationship with an alchemist whose value soon exceeds the local market. (Chapters 22–24, 105)
Administration and intelligence
Her later power is organizational. Ya Fei takes effective control of the Primer clan, directs auction operations, develops a wide information network, and rapidly transmits intelligence to the alliance. These capabilities let her protect the Xiao remnant and monitor a stronger enemy, but they depend on Primer personnel, commercial reach, and cooperation with Hai Bodong and Xiao Ding; the corpus does not establish a high-level combat technique or a reliable late cultivation rank for her. (Chapters 677, 689, 697, 703)
Relationships
-
Xiao Yan: An anonymous medicine supplier becomes a trusted commercial partner and younger-brother figure. Ya Fei protects his clan while he is absent, and he remembers both that aid and her earlier help when he returns. (Chapters 24, 105, 274, 677, 689, 697)
-
Hai Bodong: The Primer clan's senior protector and Ya Fei's principal strategic partner. Hai Bodong uses the intelligence network she built, while she coordinates the clan's personnel and auction operations under his broader military protection. (Chapters 274, 689, 697, 703)
-
Xiao Ding: Ya Fei helps shelter Xiao Ding and the surviving Xiao clan within the Primer organization. Their cooperation keeps the clan remnant intact until Xiao Yan's return. (Chapters 677, 685–689)
Items
- Primer VIP card: Ya Fei gives the disguised Xiao Yan a card valid at Primer auction houses and reduces his seller's fee from five percent to two percent, making it an early concrete sign of the relationship she is trying to cultivate. (Chapter 24)
Her later influence is tied to the Primer clan's auction inventory, messenger network, and estates rather than to a personal weapon or signature artifact.
