Viktor Halden

Viktor Halden is the demon drill sergeant assigned to prepare Atticus for Alliance war. What begins as professional assessment develops into earned loyalty, culminating in Viktor's deliberate sacrifice to free his former trainee.

Biography

Training the impossible recruit

Viktor arrives at the Ravenstein estate under hostile scrutiny but carries no ill intent, allowing Atticus to accept him as drill sergeant. He builds increasingly demanding tests using historical combat programming, unstable terrain, and physical trials, repeatedly losing composure when Atticus adapts without hesitation. After their own clash and discussion of rank, Viktor accepts his Staff Sergeant role with renewed determination rather than treating the younger fighter's superiority as humiliation. (Chapters 968–995)

During the war, Viktor holds off Draktharion with hellfire that attacks stamina and will even while recognizing the dragon will eventually overpower him. When Atticus is sealed in the Obsidian Order's Life Artifact, Viktor redirects the battle toward the hovering prison core. He grasps it and willingly gives his life, causing the orb to erupt and release Atticus; custody lasts only for the sacrificial instant and never becomes ownership. (Chapters 1032–1038)

Viktor's death changes Atticus's return from confinement into wrathful resolve and becomes one of the losses remembered after the battle. His final act also validates the trust Atticus was forced to place in allies while trapped: Viktor does what the prisoner cannot and pays the irreversible cost himself. (Chapters 1038–1080)

Appearance and personality

Viktor is a demon with a hardened face, disciplined posture, and military insignia. He is succinct, observant, demanding, adaptable, and honorable enough to turn professional responsibility into personal sacrifice.

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Viktor wields dark crimson hellfire that burns more than flesh, draining an opponent's stamina and will to fight. He can survive heavy dragonfire impacts long enough to continue the battle, but Draktharion's larger output gradually overwhelms him. His ultimate prison breach is not a normal combat technique: the Life Artifact consumes his life force as a one-use sacrificial catalyst. (Chapters 995, 1032–1038)
